Just got my measles vaccine!

I got my first before 1968, so it turns out I needed a new one.

The measles outbreak is ongoing, be careful out there!

Yes, #Tuberculosis (TB) is curable!

TB is treated with antibiotics taken daily for 4–6 months. ⚠️ Stopping treatment early can lead to drug-resistant TB.

Funding cuts & rising drug resistance put the most vulnerable at risk. Sustained support is crucial to #EndTB 👉 bit.ly/4ilkK1h #WorldTBDay

Oh for sure. As a former ICU nurse, I know next to Jack squat about OB. ICU and L&D/OB are both specialties.

We spent nearly 8 minutes this morning trying to set the record straight on a number of health matters.

I’d expect the Surgeon General or NIH Director to do this, but since they’re not, here it is in 4 clips.

This is good information. A lot of people in Texas are worried about the safety of their children under 6 months right now.
In a measles outbreak, children as young as 6 months can be vaccinated early and then vaccinated again per the regular schedule. This is an extra vaccine and does not count towards the two they should have.

Just no
No, doctors have not found good results with treating measles (a virus) with clarithromycin (an antibiotic).

Most infections clear on their own—quacks just take credit.

This is important. Many clinicians have never seen a measles rash or Koplik spots.

I oversee hospital Infection Prevention nurses and microbiologists and we are feeling the stress so badly. Our hospitals are already overburdened and we don’t want to go through another era of people dying while we watch helplessly.
The Trump administration terminates funding for polio, HIV, malaria and nutrition programs around the world.

“People will die,” said Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi of the African Population and Health Research Center, “but we will never know, because even the programs to count the dead are cut.”

I know local hospitals where I am are dealing with intense flu surges as we’re coming into the end of flu season. I don’t want to imagine the strain it will put on hospitals if no one is able to get an updated flu shot in America next season.

More not so fun measles facts

🦠wipes out up to 73% of your antibodies to bacterial and viral infections (immune amnesia)
🦠prior to the vaccine, measles killed 2.6 million people a year
🦠can survive 2 hours in a room after an infected person leaves
🦠99% of unimmunized that are exposed are infected
Doesn’t it also reset your immune system?

And wouldn’t wish those experiences on anyone.

Know what these things have in common?!

This is heartbreaking. Measles can and does kill children.
The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.
