I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that we get rid of Miller. His race war fantasies have informed the vision behind the federal assaults on US cities, as I discussed here.
My latest: How Renee Good's murder and paramilitary assaults on US cities reflect longstanding right-wing race war fantasies and Stephen Miller's fixation with a novel about white genocide. I also talk about the stories we tell and live in opposition to these narratives and share a must-reads list.
Choosing Each Other in a Time of Terror
Rather than being disbanded or intimidated by Good’s murder, the people of Minneapolis have been galvanized, escalating their resistance and refusing to retreat from the work of protecting one another...

If you want to learn about the viciously racist history of Border Patrol, I recommend Kelly Lytle Hernandez's "Migra!" It's really fascinating because Hernandez looks at the class and race implications of border patrol and who joined.

It's funny because higher education for cops, like all police reforms, has been tried before.

Look at these headlines from 1914 where people panicked classroom learning would make crime run rampant...and then think about how the NYPD just lowered education requirements. We're stuck in this cycle.

The Right can’t fathom the idea of people believing in anything, in trusting others, in being willing to sacrifice themselves to keep strangers safe.

All they understand is self-service. This is why they can say anything. Why their principles were never real. This is why they’re so afraid.

The fascists will not stop and are only going to get more violent. The Democrats have betrayed us.

It’s on us to stop this. We have to carry out a general strike and boycott even if we’re not ready. We have to kill this system before it kills us.

There's been a lot of discussion about the echoes of the civil rights movement in the protests today, with people obviously drawing comparisons between the strategies, tactics and coalitions that were vital then and are still vital now.

But this post has me thinking about a different echo ...
I suspect right now Stephen Miller and the other nazis are meeting to discuss how a place not as “nice" or "peaceful” as Minnesota will provide better oxygen for their lies and goals of martial law.

Political Scientists would call it a "tactical concession" (RRS' Spiral Model). Human rights and democracy campaigners need to make sure it leads to more gains (positive spiral) instead of stalling progress (negative spiral).
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

And while we’re at it, ask yourself why your favorite liberal commentator or personality is condemning ICE but never venturing to criticize Democrats and leaders who aren’t using their power to stop them and ask yourself if there’s a financial reason for it.

One small thing you can do *right now* — donate $5, $10, $50, whatever you're able — to this rent fund for South Minneapolis daycare workers whose families are sheltering in place. Can we raise $5k today??

Whatever you can give matters. And if you can't give, can you share?

ICE leaving Minneapolis isn’t the end of anything, it would be cathartic and possibly curb some of the building revolutionary anger and energy.

Nothing is over until ICE is abolished, its criminals imprisoned, the Trump Admin is run out of power, and a new and fairer future is realized.
