Three motor vehicle collisions where a pedestrian was struck in just 2 days. Halifax Council should be calling our rising rate of road violence an emergency.
Second pedestrian incident, one of three reported today and yesterday

Canada’s AI Minister “has been accused of naively embracing AI rather than working to mitigate its harms, and of listening mostly to voices from the tech sector—those who stand to benefit most from rapid AI adoption.”

Good article on the issues with Evan Solomon’s approach to tech and AI.

I deactivated my twitter account before the csam stuff came out (if you haven't deactivated yet you should because the new ToS start in 2 days) but I feel like a lot of people have twitter tunnel vision here 1/2

This is a really good visual, sadly got to take it with a grain of salt (pun intended) when it comes to the city and contractor bothering to follow their own policy

Like last winter the north street sidewalk was a sheet of ice for 2 weeks because they stopped caring after the 3rd storm
Just pushed a big update to snowhfx.danp.net, it has a cycling / #BikeHfx mode now!

This was tricky since it involves joining 3 HRM datasets, including the one it has been using for sidewalks.

Added an About bit that hopefully explains why things show up or not.

Feedback welcome.

Many thanks to Andy Marso for sharing his story. Andy was in j school with me at KU when he almost died from meningitis infection, which can spread easily in student housing. Another reason to fully vax teens before heading off to college. Especially meningitis, which can kill so quick. 🩺 #MedSky
Meningococcal disease has been rare. But when it occurs, it is devastating. High death rate. Survivors often lose limbs, as this person did. There's no way to accurately assess who is at risk. And yet meningococcal vaxes are no longer recommended for all children. www.thebulwark.com/p/my-life-sh...

Im just assuming at this point that @hfxgov.bsky.social just doesn't allocate salt for sidewalks cause surelu they know that when temps drop water freezes

Anyways its windy as fuck out and the sidewalks are iced

If you walk in Halifax consider getting ice cleats

As the right-wing meme page Canada Proud was posting calls to "DEFUND THE CBC," the same PR firm behind it was being indirectly funded by CBC journalists’ own union dues.

Yeah. And that's not all.

So I’m teaming up with my friends at @nationalobserver.com to tell you all about it:

Couldn't catch the license plate but was at the crosswalk on Barrington street near artz street and loiked both ways twice abd walked out, and on the left a guy going way to fast didn't bother to slow down or look at me and just barrelled right through

I hope his tires are always blinking less air

Charts in the Toronto budget presentation that drive Damien insane pt. 1: it is not a problem that the federal and provincial governments receive more tax revenue than municipalities, they do way more stuff.

Heres hoping the temperature was just high enough last night that the sidewalks aren't a slippery mess, cause you know the city couldn't be bothered to put salt down

This! And also imagine if people werent being selfish assholes and did the group project of masking in public. If you're not masking, you're the reason someone still trying to protect themselves got sick. Dick move tbh, do better

Flu hospitalizations were SO LOW when we were all masking 2020-2021
“I masked and still got sick!”

Then imagine how much fucking shittier you would be feeling if you got the full-ass viral load of whatever disease soup you were breathing.

Mask up.

It really does make a difference.

i just don't think you get to say "America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. But these are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us. That will never, that will never ever happen" in your election speech and then say stuff like this

The fuck is this.

Our two largest parties are 1) actively cheering illegal kidnapping of a president and 2) acting like a kicked dog in the face of US aggression.

It’s pathetic cowardice, not leadership.

And this cowardice puts our country at risk.

We need actual options in the next election.

Business idea

Have someone make urban ice cleats for HRM with NS memorabilia, advertising using garbage quotes from City Council and the mayor about how they hate pedestrians

Make a website rating all the sidewalks like hiking trails based on how bad they are with ice/snow
