This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

I visited Youth Zone in White City the other day. Really inspiring, lovely and ambitious place. But at the same time, left feeling quite sad because it is the *only* remaining youth provision in west London that isn't either for young people who have already ended up as formally NEET.
The UK just has incredible attention to detail when it comes to making sure the people who pay all the taxes can’t have nice things. Child benefit? No. Free Child car? No. Cut price bike to cycle to work? No.

Functionally we are telling people they pay too much tax to get anything from the state.

Embarrassing.
BBC Radio 4 this morning joined Trump in describing Zohran Mamdani as a "radical leftist".

While it is significant that New York can elect a Mayor who is & so identifies as an immigrant leader, the tendency to conflate Zohran Mamdani & Sadiq Khan as Mayors who are Muslim in high profile national/global cities (by opponents but also fans + media) overlooks significant contrasts
Mamdani: "New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, led by an immigrant."

First annual leave day off in two months after a hectic April/May/June, and I still woke up at 5.30 AM...

I think I'm going to need to nap on my train journey down south.

Adolescence a depressing case study for how discourse ruins things
1. Show raises important societal issues & triggers conversation on what to do
2. People get carried away & watching show becomes performative purity test
3. Rejecting the show becomes equally performative badge of honour for others

I have been doing entirely too much earnest posting about deep things recently, I need to do a proper thread about hippo testicles or something just to keep myself sane.

Oh by the way hippos have migratory testicles.

And the same thing will happen to cycling that happened to cricket - barely anyone will pay attention to the events bar the wealthy.
The fact that coverage wont be on ITV, but on a £30 a month subscription, stings a bit.

My review:
Gráinne and Alexander
In these serious times, there is a feeling of guilt attached to frivolity. A sense, perhaps, that you’re playing MarioKart while Rome frazzles. Political intrigue has rendered showbiz gossip …
