So anyone know why it sounds like Columbus's whole south side is on fire? The sirens have been going constantly for an hour.

Drivers stop at crosswalks in Poland now because they passed presumed liability, and they ran a public awareness campaign to promote it. The driver is presumed to be at fault if they hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The zebra stripes in Poland have magical power that the ones in America don’t. Even on a fast divided highway, a pedestrian in the shadows, well back from the curb, can stop traffic.

Someone posted some prompt along the lines of "name one book that changed your world" or something like that. Choosing a single book is hard, but I think I was in 5th or 6th grade when my dad handed me a dog-eared copy of Edward Bellamy's "Looking Backward"

It explains a lot of my world view now.

Reposting my own post because I really wanna know what goodinsane ideas yall have.
What's your craziest out-there-pie-in-the-sky policy/infrastructure idea? Mine is that there should be gigantic double tracked cruise ship like trains that traverse the US/CA with hotel rooms, and resort amenities replacing many flights with stops in major city centers.

Citing DoorDash, which is singularly responsible for raising food delivery costs 30% - 50%, as evidence of lower inflation, is a choice.
At some point embarrassment MUST come

This is a small snow plow for sidewalks

If your city plows the roads but leaves sidewalks up to property owners, your city hates pedestrians.

I think traintram systems would be a great transit solution for Columbus. Street running in downtown, OSU Campus, AND in outer suburban towns (dublin, delaware, granville/newark, Grove (city and port), etc. and on existing rail in between.
Some good comments chat yesterday on potential for Train-Tram on the MARC Camden Line->Balt. LRT. Galaxy Brain on that would be not only Camden Line (with dedicated trax) but also to York & Annapolis. What are some other Train-Tram ideas in N. America? A few I have for KC, CLE, PDX & more below...👇
What train-tram on Camden Line would need to make it at all valuable would be buying the space & installing dedicated tracks(s) and a souped-up & longer version of the S200s Siemens is building for Cleveland for higher speed & more capacity that have high & low floor boarding.

There’s a young southern woman on tt doing an experiment: calling churches & asking if they can help her get baby formula, saying she can’t afford it. Of the 30+ she’s called, nearly every church has said no. The ones who said yes were:

Black Baptist Churches
A Mosque
A small Appalachian church

Don't worry, you, your friends, and family are dying younger for a good cause. Dudes need more yachts.
Premature deaths among 18- to 64-year-olds rose 27 percent, according to a new study.

Among Black adults, the study found the increase was about 10 percentage points higher compared to White adults.
More people are dying before they turn 65. Who it impacts and what it means.
A new study reveals an increase in premature deaths among 18- to 64-year-olds, with Black adults and certain states disproportionately affected.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points
