The one thing I’ve seen do a really good job to help defuse it was “the hydrogen ladder”, setting out very clearly where it was useful, and where other alternatives made much more sense.

I think it gave busy policymakers a tool to navigate the hype.

Hydrogen Ladder Version 5.0 - liebreich
A much awaited update on Michael’s Hydrogen Ladder, now on version 5. Including 3 promotions, 7 demotions, 5 wording changes, combined use cases, and the inclusion of 4 new or partially new use cases,...

Plenty studies showing that your postcode is a better predictor of your health outcomes than your genome.
The BBC & Telegraph are trailing Wes Streeting’s technophile health plans, including genomic mapping at birth.
Is this really gonna transform the NHS into a prevention service within 10 yrs, as Wes claims? For v rare genetic conditions, praps. But for the real burden of disease?

Thoughts, #medsky?

A Met Office study reveals that the chance of exceeding 40°C in the UK is accelerating at pace.

The chance of exceeding 40°C is now over 20 times more likely than it was in the 1960s.

Temperatures several degrees higher than we saw in July 2022 are possible in today’s climate. bit.ly/4lfcTU4

All right, story time. Friend of a friend works in union labor law.

She says that once upon a time, a union was told to show up for a meeting. They do. Leader texts, tells them he'll be late.

Enough time passes that there are some tempers climbing, but it's a nice day and they're meeting outside.

It shouldn't need to be said that the politics of this are awful. I fail to see how Labour doesn't realise that not letting Thames go to SAR is going to cost it seats.

By betraying his voters so comprehensively and so soon, Keir Starmer has done us a favour. He has given us 4 years to design the government we want.
In this week's column I explain how it can be done. There's massive
potential, but we need to start now. 🧵

It is this, not arguing, but also this Labour party has been strikingly reluctant to occupy the commanding heights of the discourse. The last government made a bunch of attempts to embed right wing bias in institutions and processes; this government is content to leave them all in place.
The EHRC was captured by transphobes under the Tories and Labour could have appointed a new head but they did not, because they are also transphobic. Bigoted shits, the lot of them.

You should use Signal. Seriously. There are other encrypted messaging apps out there, but I don’t have as much faith in their longevity. In particular I have major concerns about the sustainability of for-profit apps like WhatsApp in our new “AI” world.
