Issue-specific targeted checkpoints like DUI checkpoints can be constitutional, but a generalized roust-everyone-for-anything checkpoints are definitely not. There may be an exception for a special purpose to help a career sex pest and rapist evade attention to his connection to a serial pedophile.
Situation on 14th St and W St. NW, with federal agents -- no specific agency identified -- pulling cars over for checks. They arrested a Black woman in this car.

BIG crowd of people shouting at police.

"Fuck you!"

"What is wrong with you!"

"You don't need to terrorize people like this!"

Multiple credible claims that Bove urged DOJ employees to break the law and ignore the judiciary. And the GOP Senate decided this is not disqualifying because nothing is disqualifying.
By a vote of 50-49, the #Senate confirmed Emil J. Bove III to be a United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit

Republican Senators Collins and Murkowski voted against.
Senator Hagerty did not vote.
No further votes this evening.

I'd just like to point out how weird it is that places with hundreds or even thousands of reporters — the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, AP, etc. — are all getting pummeled on every major story by the dozen computerboys at Wired. To fumble the bag this consistently is, at some point, cowardice and a choice.

This is funny but also speaks to the truth of the matter which is that Trump and DOJ believe if they keep appealing they'll find a judge who will do the homework for them, ultimately SCOTUS in many cases. It's worked out for them so far, so I get why they don't feel the need to be prepared
1. I cannot adequately describe how unprepared the government is for this case. Abrego Garcia's six-lawyer team was there the moment the courtroom opened. They were reading and verifying documents; they were working through arguments; and they were planning. DOJ got there with two minutes to spare.

Reminder that when SCOTUS wanted to nuke Biden's eviction moratorium and student loan forgiveness, they gleefully grabbed the cases before appellate courts could decide.

But "the President has declared the Constitution invalid so he can kidnap citizens and send them to foreign gulags" can wait.

/3 The idea that the American people were a simmering cauldron of anxiety about trans issues and the GOP just finally acknowledged it is ridiculous. The trans panic is as cynical, bad-faith, and artificial as the “people eating dogs” panic. “Moderating” to their framing is capitulation to evil.

The right wing attack on transgender people was already evil, but the attack on transgender members of the military is INSANE. It's never been about a random NCAA swimming meet or anyone getting cancelled over a slip of the tongue on pronouns. It's about good old fashioned HATE.
If transgender service members don't voluntarily agree to resign, they'll be forced by the Defense Department to repay the signing bonuses they received at enlistment. Not only will they be fired, they'll be punished with thousands of dollars in debt. All for attempting to serve their country.

Make that person historically infamous.

(Recall it was Robert Bork who eventually followed Nixon’s order to fire Archibald Cox)

First, the activist ‘overreach’ mostly consisted of low-stakes, cherry-picked anecdotes. The police were not defunded. Words were not banned. White men were not barred from college.

The backlash is responding to the *possibility* of social change, not actual change.
