Here are just a few of the NSF review panels that were shut down today, Chuck.
This is research that would have made us competitive in computer science that will now be delayed by many months if not lost forever.
AI is fine but right now the top priority is keeping the lights on at NSF and NIH.

This is how Kinkaku looked before it burned down. The temple was set on fire by a monk in 1950. After reconstruction, the gold leaf was reapplied in 1986 using urushi from Iwate Prefecture.

It is also striking that we already have vastly effective systems for creating ‘better people’ - public health, public education, democratic cultures that celebrate literature and the arts etc. and they have less than zero interest in any of those projects
