It is unambiguously good, for Germany and Europe, that the CDU did a 180° turn on fiscal policy and broke its election promises even before day 1 of formal coalition talks. Not sure how its voters will take it, but voters overakk were ahead of the conservatives on debt for a while now.

One thing that popped out of YouGov polling this week: The idea of Musk making money off his access is VERY unpopular.

You know? I still find it remarkably easy to remain patriotic throughout this administration.

Trump and the MAGA crowd are a repudiation of every single civic ideal that the United States is meant to represent—and I see no reason to stop believing in those ideals because of them.

Elon Musk and Nancy Mace think they are going to scare me and silence me with a censure. They don’t want opposition as they raid the social safety net. Democrats need to fight harder, not retreat. I’m not backing down folks, I’m from Long Beach.

There are lots of NGOs that use the NH primary to get candidates to commit on video to their goals. In 2008/2012/2016 I kept seeing activists use town halls to get Rs on record that they would support PEPFAR. Used to think "why ask that, who's against it?" And now we know!
big reason why George freaking Bush came up with PEPFAR, it:
a) strikes against a major public health threat
b) makes America look good
c) saves a shit ton of lives
d) costs almost nothing

that Musk and Trump are trying to tear it up is evidence of inoperable brain rot

J.P. Morgan econs on Trump’s latest are “increasingly concerned that the policy mix may tilt into an unintentionally far less business-friendly stance. The sustained 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico set to start this weekend is materially different than the tariff increases built into our baseline.”

I hope folks remember that the statute of limitations is long, Dems will regain power, and Merrick Garland is seen as a clear failure in our party. Act accordingly.
There's a very real question as to whether federal law will apply to Trump's allies at all during Trump's term. The atmosphere of impunity may be like nothing we've seen in our lifetimes.
BREAKING: Federal prosecutors based in Nashville have withdrawn from the criminal investigation of Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles, an unprecedented move that could signal plans by the Trump administration to drop the case against a Republican ally. www.newschannel5.com/news/newscha...

🚨 BREAKING: OMB has just issued a memo *rescinding* the previous memo freezing all federal financial assistance programs.

This guy justifiably believes that he’s been released to vomit extralegal violence for Trump, we’ll see what he does with that!
Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, whose sentence for seditious conspiracy was recently commuted by Donald Trump, stood front and center behind the Republican US president during his rally yesterday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The J6 pardon story is not going to go away. Emboldened violent lunatics have been given a license to commit crimes on behalf of the state. This will get worse.

Attention Federal Workers: if you encounter one of these folks, contact your friendly Oversight Committee Democrats. We’re always happy to chat.
The plan is for a cohort of unpaid, unofficial volunteers to live within federal agencies for six months, working 80 hours per week on undefined tasks, conspire with one another on Signal, and get nearly everyone around them fired. It doesn’t sound fully baked to me. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/12/u...

4 years ago a mob incited by Donald Trump attacked the Capitol to overturn the election.

Now, Trump wants to pardon these insurrectionists.

In 2023, I visited these prisoners at the DC jail on behalf of the Dems on the Oversight Committee. Marjorie Taylor Greene was there.

Here's what happened: 🧵
