American voters regardless of partisan affiliation have been quite isolationist for most of American history, it’s just elites postured towards the voters and actually acted the other way (Obama bashing NAFTA but negotiating the TPP), but eventually voters figured out what was going on.

the thing is too that much of this land is neither reasonably arable nor proximal to an agglomerative center which would justify development. they’re selling it off for no reason whatsoever. it’s a war against nature simply because they can.
