The media uses the possibility his brain is mush to avoid calling him a liar and the fact that he’s a liar to avoid saying his brain is mush.

The effect is that they write up neither of the 2 possibilities, dramatically helping Trump.
This MS-13 tattoo thing is Trump in a microcosm, and worth some serious journalistic scrutiny. He is so terribly, insistently wrong. Is he that stupid? DId his staff deceive him? Was no one willing to tell him the truth? All of the above?

We are indeed living in times where "Is the pope Catholic?" not being a rhetorical question seems about right

You know what would be kinda cool? A Chrome extension that shows you tariff impacts on all e-commerce sites
April 29, 2025 at 6:57 PM
Wow. Even Prime delivery can't send fealty that fast.
UPDATE: Looks like Amazon is backing off their plan to list tariff costs after a call from Trump 🤔

one thing that Democratic politicians should take note of is that the overlap between “great political optics” and “actual morally good stuff” is really big right now

They made Martha Stewart go to jail for much less than this.
Bernie agrees it’s highly likely Trump and his billionaire buddies bought stocks based on insider info before the market spiked - after his tariffs surrender

It's not fun being a disposable person.

(And I fully acknowledge that this feeling is not a new one to many people who look different from me)

Well this is bad news
NEW: Bolts has learned that Chicago's new prosecutor has launched a program to further empower local police.

It lets police bypass the usual 'review process' to file more felony charges directly, without a prosecutor's approval.

It signals how new prosecutor will be a lot more trusting of police:

The most perfect detail in this story is that they flew Spirit Airlines.

The one time I flew Spirit I was ready to shoot someone at baggage claim too.

Unless they also lower their fares, there'll be no reason to fly with them. They were often more expensive than other carriers in my experience, unless you added in checked bag fees for competitors.
Good luck to Southwest, which is getting rid of the main reasons people fly Southwest
Southwest Airlines continues to align with the rest of the industry, adding checked bag fees for most passengers starting this summer.

When I would explain academic publishing to people outside academia, they were always incredulous. What a system.
Academic publishing:

Your publicly-funded research is reviewed by volunteers, then you transfer the copyright to a publisher, who sells it back to the same institutions that donated the journals' contents and reviewer labour, until deciding to block access to it in order to appease authoritarians
I propose a new rule:

Library vendors don't get to call themselves our partners if they aid in the censorship of material

Christ almighty, what are we even doing 📚

A few years back, centrist Democrats & the Very Serious People mocked & dismissed the slogan ‘abolish ICE’.

Today’s actions are a reminder of how ICE is a rogue, lawless agency that is easily weaponized by an authoritarian administration & that it very much should be abolished.

US politics make more sense when you remember that our most diverse, populous states are massively underrepresented in our electoral system and our mostly white low population states are overweighted
