CS Lewis wrote a science fiction series. It's not his best work but I keep being reminded of how he depicted the devil. The protagonist is stuck on a Forest island with the actual devil for his only company. The devil could have tormented him in a myriad of ways but instead ...

the failure of Dem opposition still comes from the party being without shared beliefs such that the only message they can agree on is affordability.

the party as a whole won’t condemn cops. they won’t call for a wealth tax. they won’t call for expansive labor rights. they’re lost but hate the left.

what are your values. what do you actually care about. who are you trying to lift up. what does justice mean to you and who deserves it. I have zero answers for any of this for Dems institutionally.

If you have read even a single history of fascism, you are already aware that one thing that its rise has in common in every case is an opposition party that refuses to intervene for fear of looking weak or putting the left into power

I will never get over the fact that the Republican Party chose as its standard-bearer, and this country elected as its President, quite possibly the worst human being on the planet.
Trump: "ICE is gonna be too rough with somebody. They're gonna make a mistake sometimes. I felt horribly when I was told the young woman had the tragedy. But when I learned her father is - I hope he still is, but I don't know - was a tremendous Trump fan. It's terrible. It's so sad. It just happens"

every time I read this, I get apocalyptically apoplectic about how clear it is. it is instant. it does not require explicit congressional action to invoke, it instead only requires that to remove.

donald trump is not the current president right now, according to the constitution.

Democrats need to start trying Trump around Republicans' necks. 'Mitt Romney is in favor of war with Greenland if he wasn't he could vote with Dems to stop this'. Same with ICE, same with tarrifs. Every Republican is responsible because everyone can do something to stop it and chooses not to.

trump only cares when it hits him personally. they should sanction trump directly.

you wanna see results: close his scottish golf course.

2) Trump has no $$ to buy Greenland
3) Trump has no authority to leave NATO

This hits on something that a friend said to me that I think is absolutely right: people who are not grasping the gravity of the situation & meeting the moment, where politicians have utterly abandoned us, are doing it because of the fear of confronting that there are no guardrails anymore.
Good summary of “don’t give him what he wants” from relatively comfortable white liberals.

Happy for all you enjoying heated rivalry. But I would commit war crimes to get romance fiction that has this dynamic.

I'd like to see the onion do an article in the style of the manufactured moral panics of fox news.

But it's just 'white guys with guns'

But use real crimes and statistics to drive the point home that RW media purposely chose what groups they demonize.

A young man was moved to my shift temporarily. I got to see the media the far right consumes. Repeating the lies about Minneapolis, painting immigrants as parasites, painting the protests as insurrection and Trumps response as calm and measured.

I don't even know how to reach guy mired in that.

I keep bouncing off MIke Judge. He can be funny but his characters are just boring terrible people and I can't bring myself to care about any of them.

I have coworkers and mirror, thanks. I've got my fill of this archetype.

Seriously. I have issues with how the press handles statements from law enforcement—but this is something else. This admin, this agency, these same officials have constantly lied the whole time, including lying about events on video. It is dishonest for journalists to simply repeat their claims.
WHY are news stations reading DHS statements out loud as if they have ANY credibility at all? They literally murdered a woman in cold blood LAST WEEK and are still lying about what happened, even though we can see what happened. That any credibility would be given to their statement is insane
