I too believe the death penalty can be morally justifiable in the abstract, but imposing it in America is giving it to a committee made up of Stephen Miller, Elon Musk, and David Duke.
Nailguns are morally justifiable in the abstract but you wouldn’t buy a bunch of them for a preschool classroom.

In the abstract, I'd disagree. The death penalty is absolutely appropriate for some murders.
But we don't live in the abstract. We live in the real world, where - for all the protections the system includes - innocent people get convicted of crimes they didn't commit.
