Thank you to everyone who's shared & donated for your generosity. But support has fallen a lot. Please help Archita reach her goal and get some semblance of security in this terrible time for her and her mother. I'm the only one who's donated in 3 days:
Fellow Calcuttan writer/editor Archita Mittra is in desperate need of financial help. She recently lost her father, her home was damaged in the recent rains, & her mother's in hospital. They don't have insurance, & she's a freelancer. I can vouch for her. Please share widely & donate:

Offline for health / this is scheduled, so every share helps.

This is my tiny commitment. Can you join in by clicking “weekly” on a coffee? It means dependable support for six families & a displacement camp—SURVIVAL, nothing less, in deeply uncertain hours.

Please, my friend, help me.
Last night, the wind howled through the holes where our windows used to be. My kids huddled close, shivering under torn blankets. We survived the war ,but not the cold. Please, help me keep them warm this winter. ❤️‍🩹

I've seen people say that getting attached to ChatGPT is like "believing the stripper really loves you", but that's not true. It's more like believing that the dryer personally composed that little jingle on a lonely sockless night just to win your affections.

Relatedly: it’s still low key mindboggling that the war on terror and housing collapse eras of wrongdoing passed by without much hiccup. Our political class is just riddled with unpunished criminality.
if there's a reason to keep up the "tribunals for all involved" discourse one such reason it is to put in stark relief how far away some of the Dem politicking is from the mood on the ground
eric swalwell said on msnow that a major goal of a dem majority after the midterms would be for ice masks to come off and badges to come out, this is insufficient

Ultimately, framing science fiction as a utopian 'fix the future' solution instead of art is not dissimilar to claiming genAI can do the same. It's a form of cultural greenwashing, imo, that distracts from the actual work of holding our institutions responsible for capitalist ecocide.

The modern trend of science fiction conventions (often funded by shady entities doing greenwashing) that frame science fiction as some kind of tool to 'fix' the climate/future is so frustrating to me. Depending on art to provide a blueprint for scientific/social progress is absurd.
You should all listen to this if you’re not already listening to this podcast, but as a scientist who actually writes science fiction I can confidently say that asking scientists to communicate via scifi is the dumbest fucking idea ever

Opposition parties all tripping over their hate boners to prove who's the fashiest to the right who will never vote for them, disgusting, craven, stupid. Self destruction over moving left, always.
Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?
