Evolution of #StormAmy from 18 UTC 1 October through 12 UTC 4 October per Met Office analyses. The initial disturbance was perfectly phased with a wave in the jet, undergoing explosive cyclogenesis & evolving into a powerful Shapiro–Keyser cyclone, setting low pressure records for the time of year.

Weather NEEDS to be included in the revised A level Geography curriculum (whenever that happens). There's lots of chat about climate change as a topic, but weather is as important for people's day today lives.
The position & hooked shape of strongest winds in this UKV modelling brings to mind the term 'sting jet'.

weather.metoffice.gov.uk/learn-about/...

As does storm Amy being expected to be a Shapiro-Keyser type cyclone as it peaks (conducive to a sting jet).
