Things I have to explain as an autistic person with a (mostly) ADHD family:
- I do not need stimulation. I need peace & quiet.
- I spend all my time trying to lower my cortisol, stop being overstimulated, and get back to baseline.
- I love you but I know exactly how many minutes we've been talking

How awful. This is outright health disinformation, lying to the American people. Not only is there massive evidence showing no link between vaccines & autism, there’s not even a plausible mechanism based on what we’ve learned about the genetics of autism, some environmental exposures in pregnancy

My personal timeline is full of autistic people trying to explain that there isn't more autism than before, it's just that we're better at detecting it, and there's nothing more autistic than hoping explaining something at length will help matters when nobody is really listening.

My son is autistic, largely nonverbal. He reads a lot, is smitten with all things Lego. He excels in school. He finds his ways to communicate.
There’s nothing wrong with autism. The rhetoric drives me mad.
It’s on us to make the world easier for neurodiverse folks, not to push them to conform.
