I think one way to understand the present is that the ruling class discovered that rule by ideology was too difficult to maintain and switched to rule by agnotology, by the production of ignorance.

The outsized response to Kirk’s death is a function of the outsized power of mediated attention. He didn’t ‘debate’ so much as deploy the heckler’s veto- yelling, demeaning, belittling his opponents.
He was a professional bully and he made millions doing it. That’s what passes as politics now.
