It feels that Trump NSS declaring it wants to support, in essence, the overthrow of European Liberal Democracy and undercutting all of the assumptions we've based our last 70 years of foreign policy on should be a bigger news story. More than, you know, Eurovision
🚨🚨 God #America, this is grim and a very stark wake-up call to European political ledaders on the (non) future of the "transatlantic alliance":

The fact that four hostile drones tried to hit Zelenskyy’s plane & it’s barely a blip in the news cycle should terrify everyone. We’ve been dragged so deep into the chaos era that an attempted strike on a world leader doesn’t even break through. When this becomes normal, the world is in real danger.

100% wrong.

Russia fought to annihilate Ukraine. Ukraine fought to survive as an independent nation. Territory is secondary in this war.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that if Ukraine takes the right steps, its GDP could surpass Russia’s within 10 years.

"They are literally fighting over a 30-50 km strip in Donetsk, roughly 20% of the region still under Ukrainian control and now a central issue in negotiations."

My latest: in which I visit Oxfordshire's 'Rubbish Mountain', buy a Twirl in the country's most violent Sainsbury's, and explore the absolutely dismal response of the Environment Agency.
Rubbish Mountain
A gigantic pile of rubbish was dumped in a field in Oxfordshire. The response sums up everything wrong with British bureaucracy.

Really good thread. I despair. We are a failing country.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

Not rude! He has cerebellar hypoplasia (wobbly cat syndrome). Basically when the mum has the panleukopenia virus (parvo in dogs) when pregnant, sometimes one kitten (usually only one) doesn't develop movement centre (cerebellum) properly & comes out wobbly. It's not painful & improves as they grow
I’m sorry I’m new to Smol Paul (but already a fan) not trying to be rude but what is wrong with the little guy? I’ve never seen a cat move like that. 😂

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

I've been fighting something for over 2 weeks now. Should really try to get some steroids from my GP. Again. If you're able to WFH please do so when you're ill, and if not, please wear a fucking mask.
Starting a week on the wards so checking the national data. Looks like it’ll be lots of ‘flu and RSV. If you’re unwell, please isolate. I know it’s easier said than done—we all have lots to do—but limiting viral spread is a job for everyone.

It's part of the electionification of everything, which is why we as a country are failing to have a proper conversation about our actual problems. It's bad for the left *and* the right.
It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

Another way of looking at this, of course, is that if you took the triple lock out of the equation, the benefits bill would very likely roughly be increasing in line with projected inflation *if that*
