The British government doesn’t get it. Brexit was the first step in the populist crapshow that has weakened Europe as a whole vis a vis Trump and Putin. Reducing the harm of Brexit is the first step to Europe recovering
Asked whether Trump's trade war means the UK will now consider re-entering a customs union with the EU, Keir Starmer's spokesman replies that "we're not going backwards when it comes to Brexit"

Trump, the self-styled 'master negotiator', has removed any leverage for Putin to come to the table. The only possible conclusions are either/some combination of a) he's actually a terrible negotiator b) he's indifferent to what happens to Ukraine c) he wants Russia to win.

What does America get in return from Russia after America has
- removed sanctions
- called for Russia to be let back in G7
- allowed reopening of Embasseys
- suspension of arms to Ukraine
- A summit between the two leaders
- downgrading cyber security

Answer? A President

Trump is on Putin's side.

That's it. That's the story and if you are on Trump and Putin's side then you're on the side of murder, fear, war and autocracy.

Find it absolutely staggering that some people who you'd expect so much more of are cheering this nightmare on

Brexit has obliterated a large chunk of trade between Ireland and Great Britain.

And - no real surprise, surely - it has hurt the UK significantly more than it has hurt Ireland.

The greatest act of self-harm in our history just keeps on giving.

As a proud Scot I promise that should JD Vance come to Scotland we will show him what Freedom of Speech looks like.

He might also find his boss' golf courses suddenly remodelled too
Still internalising the Vance Munich speech. A sitting Vice President goes to Europe, barely says a word about the despotic murderous regime which has invaded its neighbour, and instead lectures his allies about freedom of speech. It’d be funny if it weren’t so serious.

It is infuriating these people in positions of *authority* did not see all this coming. I did. People from my industry did. There are no excuses for NOT asking the right people (experts) to educate you on what was ALWAYS coming regardless of the final (any FTA) Brexit deal !!!

On "is still painfully slow" ("higher cost & reduced choice") this is price of trading across regulatory & customs borders between DIFFERENT legally regulated & customs territories 1/6

And all but 4 already have free trade agreements with the UK, negotiated by the post-Brexit Conservative governments.

The key phrase in the convention's name is "preferential rules of origin". That's all it's about. Making it slightly easier to trade under those existing agreements.

Why oppose it?
The customs treaty which The Telegraph refers to as "return to EU" has 24 non-EU parties, including North African and Middle Eastern countries such as Morocco and Syria 🤡 trade.ec.europa.eu/access-to-ma...

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
