Arvo Pärt: Spiegel im Spiegel
Daniel Hope, Simon Mulligan.

It's in F major in 6/4 time, with the piano playing rising crotchet triads and the violin playing slow scales, alternately rising and falling, of increasing length, which all end on the note A.

Arvo Pärt: Spiegel im Spiegel

Written in 1978, just prior to his departure from Estonia, Arvo’s piece for piano and violin is musically minimal, yet produces a serene tranquillity.

Other instruments are used. Leonhard Roczek, Cello
Herbert Schuch, Piano. This is very slow

This "peace deal" is top of Trump's campaign list for the Nobel Prize.

The only surprise is that a US president might think that peace could be mediated without a clue on what the dispute is about, and believe that it can be resolved just by threatening tariffs

Michael Prescott and Sir Robbie Gibb both bailed out of journalism years ago, and enjoy lucrative careers in corporate PR. And now they are the arbiters of BBC editorial standards. Go figure www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...
The BBC has bigger impartiality problems than its coverage of Trump
It is the BBC’s entire governance structure–rather than individual stories–that should cause most concern

I agree with @arusbridger.bsky.social about BBC governance. Although v hesitant about another rearrangement, the single corporate-style board is massively flawed, not least because there needs to be some distance for the governors/board members from editorial decisions

Trump incited violence on 6 January 2021.

An outside producer made a bad edit when there was plenty of unedited material to show that.

Today Trump's granting pardons to dozens of people involved in that day's attempt to sabotage the handover of power.

The BBC flagelllates itself.

“There will be those who will clap and cheer at the senior BBC resignations … but such elation is misconceived. For the BBC to be this weak as an institution when faced with outside (and politically motivated) criticism is not a sign of a healthy mixed polity.”

One for the trade experts, say @davidheniguk.bsky.social @coppetainpu.bsky.social.

No wonder US biz are in a low-hire low-fire regime, they can't develop long term plans when tariffs change this much.

Likely will feed through to US prices and inflation soon enough.
Trump’s trade war has unfolded as a series of threats, announcements, pauses, starts and deals, and the coining by the FT’s own @robarmstrong.bsky.social of the term “Taco” — Trump always chickens out. Even with all the changes, the de facto tariff rate is at its highest level in nearly a century.

Frost was ‘a vacant soul’ following the 2019 attack at Fishmonger's Hall. He said there will be ‘so many lives changed’ from the recent train incident.
