WIC. They are pausing WIC.

That's the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Last time I checked (a while ago), every dollar spent on WIC produced over a dollar in savings *in the same fiscal year.* For most people, though, feeding infants and mothers is enough.
Broader agreement that it to applies to discretionary spending payments (Head Start, WIC, etc).

i will say that we have never experienced anything like an administration trying to essentially freeze the activities of the entire federal government while making a series of illegal power grabs. genuinely unclear to me what kind of response, if any, these guys are generating against them

It is a conspiracy theory which GBNews repeats many times a day.
1/4. Of course claims of ‘two tier’ policing are far right extremist propaganda. They’re the inverse of reality. Black people are arrested at the date of 20 per 1000 and White people at 9 per 1000. The claim is designed to make White people feel victimised.

Two-tier policing claim is extremism, Home Office review suggested
The review ordered by Yvette Cooper — and since rejected by ministers — recommended changes to counterextremism policy to tackle a greater range of threats

it genuinely sucks that basically nothing on the internet works well anymore. search? barely works. social media? filled with garbage engagement-bait designed to game the algorithm. news websites? pages that refresh at random or so covered in video ads that it’s impossible to read stories

10 years ago a single bathroom bill passed in north carolina received so much pushback from all angles that the fucking NBA boycotted the state btw. that’s where we were then versus now. cool cool cool
Nancy Mace has introduced a federal bathroom ban which would ban trans people from bathrooms in DCA and Dulles airports, national park bathrooms, museum bathrooms, and all federal building bathrooms.

Difficult to describe what a dangerous moment we are in.

The owner of Twitter/richest man in the world/closest adviser to the next US president is promoting a far-right Tommy Robinson (!) documentary to his 200 million followers.

This is the mainstreaming of violent, Islamophobic fascism.

Florida State University had to cancel 432 courses because the state won't allow teaching about gender theory or post-colonialism, and the University of Texas system is restricting teaching about critical race theory and queer theory, and yet we're still doing this sort of story?
As contempt for cancel culture and self-censorship on college campuses continues to drive a political divide across the country, Jon Wertheim reports on a new start-up university, the University of Austin. Sunday on 60 Minutes ⏱️

so i, too, am mad at biden about his failures around clemency, but what angers me is that he has shown virtually no mercy, a stinginess that has morphed into cruelty. MORE clemency. more clemency all the time. more pardons. more commutations. more mercy. more mercy. more mercy.

the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

Feeling grateful that I was preparing for a Trump victory this summer and wrote a toolkit for a way we could start organizing something new from the ground up.

Going to try and take some of my own advice.

Anyone that wants to build a leftist movement in the US and doesn’t think that radical political education needs to be at the center of it should not be trusted.

No more “it’s not my job to educate you.” We need to educate everyone. We need people to be angry that they are being robbed.

I wrote a book with @prisonculture.bsky.social about the kind of work that's ahead of us. No matter what happens next, let's get our learn on and think strategically about the work of collective survival. Isolation incubates fear. Together, we are strong, and we will fight for each other.
