When Democrats offered a clean ONE-year extension of the tax credits—which is truly the most straightforward and common-sense thing we can do for people facing gigantic premium hikes this year—Republicans said “never, ever, ever, ever.” They called it “political terrorism.” Are you serious?

I will not let people forget that the same Republicans who did everything in their power to make tax breaks for billionaires PERMANENT refused to even negotiate ONE YEAR of health care tax credits for working families.

No one should doubt for a single second who is to blame for skyrocketing health care costs: Republicans and Republicans alone.

And families across the country will pay the price of Republican inaction every single month.

Trump isn’t interested in truth. He is interested in subordination and control. The apology conveys to me that the BBC thinks they can sweep this under the rug with a robust “sorry,” but that’s just opened the door to an authoritarian to come at them. Where are the journalists to say “no, enough?”

In the midst of a 40+ day Republican shutdown with major flight delays and being short 3,000 air traffic controllers, our INSANE President is ENCOURAGING ATCs to quit heading into the holiday season.

Trump is taking a wrecking ball to our air safety infrastructure.
Trump to air traffic controllers: "For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU. You didn’t step up to help the U.S.A. against the FAKE DEMOCRAT ATTACK"

What everyone should understand is that Donald Trump could just pay SNAP benefits so people don't go hungry.

He's choosing not to. He is choosing to appeal to SCOTUS. He is choosing cruelty.

Another horrifying consequence of Republican abortion bans that block women from getting the basic health care they need.

Every Republican should have to answer for this.

A new ProPublica data analysis adds to the mounting evidence that abortion bans have made the common experience of first-trimester miscarriage far more dangerous.

A stark reminder that-despite the fecklessness of 7 Democratic senators-Donald Trump and his MAGA lackeys are the real reason health insurance premiums have skyrocketed

The callousness of their Big Ugly Bill and half-baked ideas (like this one) to “fix” the crisis will get even MORE people killed
Trump: "We want a healthcare system where we pay the money to the people instead of the insurance companies. We're gonna be working on that very hard over the next short period of time. Where the people get the money. We're talking about trillions and trillions of dollars."

Typical petro-state #ffagenda climate change global warming denier. Just lie, racast blame from the mass harms they cause, make stuff up. Just like tobacco and asbestos companies with causing lung cancer or Purdue pharma re false long term harmful drug prescribing, same product marketing tactics
Mike Johnson: "That's the reason the inflation is up, the cost of living is up so high -- because of the policies of the previous administration. Now, we're working to root those policies out and implement our own, but it takes a little time."

Unpopular shutdown take: something like this result was probably baked in from the start, trying to fight was the right thing to do anyway, and Dems don't suck. Shutdown politics always favor Rs due to nihilists' advantage. They've never given half a shit if people starve before, they didn't now.

Need to stop pretending:
We know this because he told us.

The reality is the government was shut down the first day Trump entered office. We just didn't talk about it that way.

The only real leverage Dems had is on appropriations. Schumer screwed that up in February/March for FY 26. It imperiled his political support.

i'm basically with you on this. the optics are bad, the power dynamic is bad, but it's bad either way. the problems go much deeper than "caving" - primarying people is fun but not a structural solution to having elected a party that doesn't want to live in a society or a republic

The thing to make it about was the lawless authoritarianism. Just like last week’s elections were.
They were never going to get ACA subsidies, which is part of why it was a mistake to insist this was only about ACA subsidies and nothing else.
Sincere question: does anybody have any evidence that the GOP/WH would have eventually folded and extended the ACA subsidies if the shutdown continued?

I haven’t seen any. The President didn’t seem to feeling any pressure. No GOP Senator AFAIK expressed any concern. (Some Reps did)

Long-term, there’s plenty of time for recriminations around the Democratic capitulation (primaries, leadership votes, etc.).

Short-term, we can’t lose sight of our biggest goal:

Pressuring House and Senate Republicans to extend the ACA subsidies.

Like it or not, that’s where the fight is now.
