You probably heard the US admin is threatening to break up the National Center for Atmospheric Research: but did you know they already froze funding for the 9 regional Climate Science Adaptation Centers? From tracking invasives to helping tribes with drought, here's why the CASCs matter ⬇️
From invasive species tracking to water security – what’s lost with federal funding cuts at US Climate Adaptation Science Centers
The people who manage America’s aquifers, wetlands, shorelines and recreation areas rely on federal science as they face new and rising risks in a changing climate.

The US economy is becoming more "k-shaped" as affluent consumers continue to spend and lower-income Americans cut back. Here's what to know (from November)
How the K-Shaped Economy Is Hurting Everyone But the Rich
Talk of the K-shaped economy is brewing once again. The moniker first gained traction in 2020 to describe the divergence between how rich and poor Americans were experiencing the pandemic recovery. Now, with consumption increasingly concentrated in the top echelons of wage earners, economists are concerned that the US economy finds itself in a top-heavy, unstable state.

Also, in 2027, a Dem Congress's electoral priority will be making the 2028 GOP ticket unelectable. The models: Rs pounding Clinton in 2013-2015 and finding her server, Rs probing Biden's family in 2019-2020, which clearly aged and weakened him.

They'll want to drive down Vance's numbers, not Trump.
I'm on sabbatical til mid-February, so not talking to Dems as much. But my recent sense is that they are punch-drunk from the first-term and Biden-era probes of Trump either being ineffective or backfiring. "Impeachment" isn't even a threat anymore.

Probes of Hegseth et al? Sure, but Trump is safe

Also not the point of the article but - why on earth is “nearly all of the romaine consumed in the U.S. from Oct-March” grown in the Arizona desert??? Seems pretty stupid

When Patrick Pouyanné decided to spend billions on a giant natural gas field in a faraway warzone, he made the call alone, over a single dinner.

Six years later, that decision would lead the TotalEnergies CEO to be named in a war crimes complaint.

Of all the examples of people dying because somebody inexperienced was in charge, the biggest, most horrifying was Elon Musk and DOGE. No idea what AID did, didn’t care, blew it up and at least 600,000 people died unnecessarily as a consequence. Mass murder out of ignorance and bias. Thanks, Elon.
the very last person who should be prattling on about the dangers of inexperience is the grifting troglodyte who killed millions when he was put in charge of “efficiency”

America has 925 billionaires as of this year. Collectively they have a record $6.9 trillion in wealth.

The bottom 50% of Americans control $4.2 trillion in wealth.

When 925 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.
