Do legislators write their own email newsletters? How do they determine what content to include?

I had the opportunity to chat with former MEP @richardcorbett.bsky.social and learn from a politician's perspective on communicating with constituents.

Some thoughts on the strategic rationale behind the "Brandmauer” – the cordon sanitaire vis-à-vis the AfD – and the challenges associated with maintaining it. Seems pertinent, given that senior CDU/CSU figures regularly float the idea of ditching it and exploring avenues for closer cooperation.

Looks like the CDU is willing to rely on AfD votes to push through new harsh anti-asylum measures next week. They will likely get Lindner’s FDP votes and Wagenknecht’s BSW as well. A terrible mistake they’ll come to regret.

367 ist die magische Zahl:
Union 196
AfD 76 (Summe: 272)
Fraktionslos 9, davon 7 früher AfD (279)
FDP 90 (Summe: 369)

All eyes on FDP, I guess...

I’m sure subtle differences in wording about defense policy (from a party that ran our military into the ground) will matter greatly when they’re eventually in a coalition with the AfD.
I’m not giving recommendations, but the way the CDU phrased this in their programme just make me go “yes exactly!” so they get a brownie point here.

“We need to be able to defend ourselves, so that we don’t have to defend ourselves.”

This logic really has been forgotten in Germany.

Countering the “Climate Cult” – Framing Cascades in Far-Right Digital Networks

German media have leaked an internal AfD document showing that far-right normalization is a deliberate strategy. Not surprising, but still frustrating because apparently political science research is read by exactly the wrong people while it is largely ignored by mainstream parties.
Bitter.

Strategiepapier enthüllt: AfD sieht „Normalisierung“ ihrer Positionen
Einem Bericht der „Welt“ zufolge sieht sich die Rechtsaußenpartei als koalitionsfähig. Andere Parteien hätten ihre Forderungen übernommen.

In months ahead, 🇪🇺 leaders need to decide long term strategy to tackle 🇪🇺 economic, fiscal, industrial and security challenges

Conventional view is that 🇪🇺 is forged in crisis as Monnet’s saying goes

But radical right’s rise in last decade might seriously complicate 🇪🇺’s road to reform
