#nzpol Labour is proposing to create a Capital Gains Tax on property - excluding farms and the family home. That income will help make GP visits free for the majority of people. Is that a better policy than continuing tax-free profits on, say, someone's seventh property? Absolutely. A🧵

First up, this bare-faced lie. The countries in the pink circle have a similar-sized economy to NZ. Govt spending is a lot higher in all but one . [🧵 1/n]

Yes the CO2 rise 2023-2024 was faster than we predicted at Mauna Loa and was a record rise there - now the WMO confirm the global mean rise was also a record

Also the rate of CO2 rise is now above the IPCC scenarios that limit global warming to 1.5C

🚴 The way to make cycle paths "make sense" is to invest in connecting them. Once they connect right through to destinations, more people use them.
Transport Minister Chris Bishop is keen to see more children learning to ride bikes, but on halving cycleway spending says, “it’s fair to say that some people are sick and tired of cycle lanes in areas where they don't make sense”.

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

This is not good policy, nor targeted spending. It’s just a press release trying to distract people from the very real problems in health. Our health system needs real solutions and real funding - to properly support health workers across Aotearoa. Not more spin.

The greatest deaths in a mass shooting was the Utoya massacre of young people attending a summer socialist camp, by the right wing lunatic Anders Breivik. Then the NZ mass shooting.

Bike-lanes don’t cause traffic congestion.

Car dependency, foolish land-use sprawl, too many (& bigger) cars driving too much taking up too much space, highly subsidized driving costs, and not enough choices in how to get around, ALL cause traffic congestion.

Think about it. THAT’S common sense.
