Good set of thoughts in the linked article. Sums up some of the 'critiques' I've seen in video game spaces over the last few years.

Also helps clarify my utter dislike of CinemaSins, etc.
The paragraph about TV Tropes is spot on. I can't bear that approach to criticism where the main aim seems to be asserting superiority to the work. People who'll identify an influence and be like "Ah, rumbled!" episodes.ghost.io/art-criticis...
You are not smarter than the art you critique
Here's my best advice for young critics: Don't presume you know better.

The part that got me was this, quote: "some companies using AI may still be unfamiliar with the expectation of informed consent and the concept of data sovereignty."

*deep breaths*

Look. I realize the internet makes everything 'feel' free. It's not.
This is a good article about data sovereignty, AI grift, the marginalization of Indigenous languages, and how these and many other things converge to wreak superfluous harm on Indigenous communities.

This all the way to the bone marrow. Find things that bring you joy and cling to them like the life preserver they are in the stormy seas of our present moment in history.
I saw someone on my timeline shaming someone else for posting about college football in a time like this.

Folks, if we're going to survive a time like this, we're going to need to avoid burning out from an attitude of 24/7 vigilance and constant outrage.

Let people find joy where they can, please.

Be savage about the joy you find each day, kiddos. This fucking timeline is trying to break us. Be determined to punch it in the face with a shit-eating grin and fistful of flowers.

Make life take the lemons back.

THIS ALL DAY.

When I was coming up in writing, I learned 2 things from my elders.

Cream rises to the top. You never have to worry about losing out if you're always trying to be your best self.

There's always room at the top. Readers read more than one writer. Someone's success won't hurt yours.

Look, sometimes you have a day where you just need to sit and listen to the soundtrack to A Goofy Movie three times in a row, okay?
