I did an audio story on the history of bikes basically and how in some use cases they were better than cars - you can't parachute into a war zone with an automobile. As part of that research I learned that the original Curious George manuscript was smuggled out of Vichy France by bike /1
This piece on the humanities and AI is interesting. But I struggled with the text below, in which research is seen as the efficient extraction of what I already know I want. For me, the point of books is that they’re not ‘customized’ — their quirkiness is a feature, not a bug. tinyurl.run/cwxDSr

This broke me from the first paragraph

"For Melissa Hortman’s last day at work, they draped her coffin with pink flowers and filled the cold marble under the Minnesota Capitol dome with the green and growing things that she loved."

Thank you, @stribrooks.bsky.social

I know folks don't like giving out donations but PBS is a public good, often providing programming many companies are too frightened to.

A subscription costs less than your average streaming service and in some cases less you barely watch.

Keep em alive.
I received an email today from the PBS station where I've done on-air stuff for more than 30 years (primarily for Classic Doctor Who). They are very, very worried about the future. PBS Passport is an AMAZING benefit for even a modest donation. Support a local station if you can.
PBS deserves your dollars more than any other streaming service

ICE wants to deport a BYU PhD student for the crime of organizing a church fishing trip 6 years ago, where he himself did not fish but the other attendees caught too many.

How is this reality???
In 2019 a BYU Japanese PhD student helped organized a fishing outing. The group caught more fish than they were allowed, but prosecutors decided not to charge him.

Now, his visa is being revoked.

Kudos to Rubio for keeping America safe.

It's possible that the data included sensitive info on unions, ongoing legal cases and corporate secrets.

This is vitally important (see the thread in the qrt for more info), but the short version is:
Comment we need to keep DACA ppl on the ACA, trans healthcare should be covered, and making the ACA less accessible to people is a no-go for you.

Harper Collins did not sign.

So weird how being owned by Rupert Murdoch means they can't even advocate for their own survival. Libraries are a HUGE part of all publishers' bottom lines.

If you can't speak out bc it's right, speak out bc otherwise this destroys your bottom line ffs
