Really not enough emphasis on just how much white supremacy drives this entire agenda. Like there is a lot because of the explicit nature of all their actions, and it's still not enough.

I wrote a bit for McSweeney's about Isaac Chotiner interviewing Santa Claus. Just a little something for the holiday season. Enjoy!
The New Yorker’s Isaac Chotiner Interviews Santa Claus
For several centuries, Santa Claus has been one of the most prolific mythical gift-givers in the world. Formerly known as Saint Nicholas of Myra, a...

it is an underrated miracle of the 21st century that we really did massively, massively reduce bullying in schools
My experience as well. So far we're 2-for-2 on kids having a largely bullying/abuse-free middle school experience. Not without bumpy spots of course, but light years away from what I endured.

My hot take: the anti-bullying stuff has really worked, which is why conservatives are pushing back at it.
for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

here's the solution to the "video games can't be about dark/sexual topics" problem: books! you know how books can have all kinds of horrible things in them?

we bring back that early-CRPG thing where games came with a book and the video game tells you to read stuff out of the book at certain times

Hi other tech folks! Does anyone have recommendations for trans-friendly recruiters on the West Coast?

I’m a lead product manager with around a decade of experience. Looking to shift back to a salaried position after consulting the last couple years.

Reposts appreciated, thanks!

i've seen a significant volume of people who are interested in making "games as art" essentially stop making games as art because of thE lack of clarity and acceptance here. you can't just say "games are obviously art" & then still primarily valourize games for the features which make good products.
the HORSES stuff is obviously ridiculous and depressing, but it is also worth asking ourselves: who has benefited from the "games are art" campaign? it has certainly not been the artgame makers, whose work continues to be shunned and dismissed as "not games"
holy fuck this is ridiculous, how can we claim games are art if art is this scary to our two primary distribution channels?

Because my game is running on Unreal Engine 5, I worry that it's not going to be friendly to older machines/potato PCs. At least, not unless I somehow implement some serious customization options, which I worry might be beyond my talents rn.

That said, I am still trying to optimize it as best I can

Do I need to add “seems bad?”

I listened to a biography of FDR recently and the throughline of his first 2 terms is that he was boldly against monied interests in word and deed and the American people fucking loved him to death for it*

Debunking myths about Mother Rosa Parks, an icon of the Civil Rights Movement and (as we knew her growing up) a great Detroiter. 💐
Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother
