Greetings new arrivals. I'm Sam and for the most part I am but a humble shitposter.

I have a background in studying Nazi Germany, the late Russian Empire and the early USSR which I thought would be a neat party trick but then Timothy Snyder started appearing on MSNBC and now I hate everything

I will never understand why the western media is:
1) so obsessed with russian opposition
2) completely oblivious to the fact that she has so little influence - it'd be more worthwhile to invite a random russian 100k subs youtuber or stand-up comedian
3) morality something something principles
“If I had to describe the movement that my husband Alexei Navalny created in just a few words, I’d say this: We are a pro-European movement,” Yulia Navalnaya, Russian opposition leader and economist writes in an op-ed.

We aren’t asking for anything extravagant: We simply want Russia to be a normal country that cares about the dignity, rights and future of its people — just as European countries do.

79-year-old Paul Bojerski was born to Polish parents in a WWII German refugee camp. His family legally emigrated to the U.S. when he was 5.

He’s been taken by ICE in Florida.

Paul Bojerski never gained official residency, but he checked in regularly with ICE for years. Then in July, at age 79, he was detained and sent to Alligator Alcatraz.

as a white liberal with Southern roots, quite frankly, I think other white liberals from the South need to get the fuck over their oddly defensive attitude about what should be pretty blindingly obvious.
I understand why some white liberals from the Deep South want to insist that there isn't something distinct (and bad) about Southern political culture but the problem with this is that we wouldn't even have this idea of "The South" as distinct from the rest of the US if there wasn't a there there

one problem with a bunch of neophytes suddenly involving themselves in politics that always happens is when they see an incredibly normal product of the complexities of campaign finance, they immediately jump to it being a conspiracy

which usually means blaming jews because that's how america works

There's this eternal debate within Russian nationalism about whether Russia should consider itself Asian or European and the Navalnyists very clearly believe that Russia is European (racist)

I am reminded of how Olivia Nuzzi's evidence for Biden's senility was that he didn't remember who she was. The kind of narcissism that gets you promoted to the upper ranks of U.S. political journalism.
The prose is incoherent & the only way to make it through a paragraph is to rely on the North Star or her self-pitying narcissism. The gist of this graf is “strangers obsess about me, must be because I work so hard,” but it is almost immediate lost in the morass of “typed on notes app while hiking”

i think the synthesis so far of the LA/DC/Chicago experiences is:

1) vulnerable people should hide and wait it out to whatever extent they can
2) other people should help them do that, financially and otherwise
3) other people should also get loud
4) not violent though

What a joke. Barely mentions the war and treats it like a natural disaster that will magically end. This is some “officer-involved shooting “-ass phrasing.
