Get vaccinated. But also know that, while helping prevent serious illness in the initial acute phase, in some cases COVID vaccines may reduce the risk of infection only by roughly 30% for 2-4 months. And they don’t prevent long term issues. So that’s where the need for masking comes in
Some vaccines like COVID and flu don’t stop completely stop infection.

But they do reduce the risk of getting infected and greatly reduce severe illness risk.

They are still worth getting.

Since they are not 100% effective it’s also wise to add another layer of protection by wearing a mask.

For the first time in my career, I can’t tell people to trust what the CDC website says. And that is an incredibly sad and devastating place for this country to be.
CDC has overhauled its website to assert that “the claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim”

I have watched in horror for five years while the government and the media has casually talked about ‘only vulnerable’ dying it’s not ok. This is how the Overton window moved.

Analysis found long COVID patients had far more microclots than healthy controls — a median 19.7-fold increase — and the clots were also significantly larger than those seen in healthy blood.

The newly emerging SARS-CoV-2 variant BA.3.2 has a remarkable ability to evade antibodies and can rapidly spread even amongst vaccinated populations, although no one cares.

One of the things that I said about the obsession with pandemic learning loss is that the kids are always learning. Many of us are too afraid to ask what it is they are learning. This is a pretty good summary of some of the lessons.

If anyone tells you that we are in a better place now than in the beginning of the pandemic, it’s a lie. People are dying more in the chronic phase of Covid than in the acute stage, and those who survive, are left with chronic illnesses that may become permanent.

We must remain resilient.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive
