That kind of skeptical, questioning, "don't accept what authority tells you" attitude of science - is also nearly identical to the attitude of mind necessary for a functioning democracy. They have very consonant values and approaches, and I don't think you can have one without the other.

A transformer model for de novo sequencing of data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry data
A core computational challenge in the analysis of mass spectrometry data is the de novo sequencing problem, in which the generating amino acid sequence is inferred directly from an observed fragmentat...

Tissue-like multicellular development triggered by mechanical compression in archaea
The advent of clonal multicellularity is a critical evolutionary milestone, seen often in eukaryotes, rarely in bacteria, and only once in archaea. We show that uniaxial compression induces clonal mul...

This has only been possible through NIH funding.

Funding biomedical science through the NIH has been one of the greatest accomplishments of the United States of America for America, and for the world.

We are ALL better for the work that passionate scientists funded by the NIH have been able to do.

Of the 4000 researchers at NIH, only 20% are tenured. They’re going to fire all the rest as their contracts come up for renewal, absolutely decimating research at the NIH. This is catastrophic, not just for Americans, but for the whole world.
