町と町を隔てる川にかかった橋を、色々な人々が行き来していた。だがそれが気に食わない過激な人が、橋を燃やそうと火をつけた。周りの人が慌てて水をかけ、火を消し、放火犯を捕まえた。
一件落着と思いきや、放火犯に同調し、橋を燃やそうとする模倣犯が現れ続けた。一方、燃える橋に水をかける人や、放火犯を批判する人々も増えていく。
そんな中、
「"火派"と"水派"の対立は深刻だ」
「水派が火派に歩み寄ることも必要だ」
「自分を正しいと思い込み、批判してばかりの水派こそが、むしろ社会を分断している」といった言葉も飛び交い始める。
本当に社会を分断するのは、水でも批判でも対立でもなく、橋が焼け落ちることなのだが。

「分断」という言葉はけっこう要注意だな、と思うことが最近増えて、というのも社会の「分断」という状態そのもの（橋がないこと）を嘆いてみせることで、なぜか「分断」のそもそもの原因を作り出した奴（橋を燃やす人）の所業が有耶無耶になってしまうことってあるよなと思って。
大統領に就任した人間が初日からこの世のあらゆる「橋」を全力で燃やしにかかっている姿を目にして、なおのことそう思った。

Some of us have been warning about this and calling for anti-SLAPP laws (both federal and state) for years and years and years. And I'm not stopping now.

Defamation law has been so widely abused to chill speech and so few people know it.

と、ちょっと言葉を入れ替えるだけで（たぶん発言者さんの想定とは真逆の）内容になってしまうんだよね。そして歴史的にはむしろそうした状況の方が「ずっっっっっと」長い。現実社会の不均衡にもう少し目を向けた方がいいのでは、と思いました
