this is over my belief that the party "opposed to fascism" should not use children playing children's sports as pawns in a game that could cost children civil rights, public existence, or their lives.

i believe that if you want to defeat fascism, you should tell democrats this ain't the play.

It draws attention to how traffic engineers framed streets as too dangerous for children’s play but not dangerous enough to warrant infrastructural changes.
PLANNING PERSPECTIVES 'The freedom of the place during daylight hours': urban renewal and the fight over play streets in Newcastle upon Tyne, c.1955-1980 Sally Watson School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK ABSTRACT Newcastle upon Tyne's 1960s planning policy included play streets as a short-term measure in neighbourhoods intended for long term urban renewal. The sia as on treate a tess for shiere of lay in are as that a ked ten environmental turn of the 1970s, this article examines the circumstances surrounding the implementation and adaptation of this policy, abandonment in 1974 and continuing resident activism following this. Based on municipal and government archives and local newspapers, it critically examines the moral landscape of play streets and the planning and traffic engineering policies and practices underpinning their governance. It shows that the demise of play streets was not due to a decrease in demand for them. Instead, a dominant 'car logic' contributed to constituting the child as out-of-place in the street. Factors including the transfer of play streets from planning to engineering, reductions in traffic management budgets following the 1973 oil crisis and a lack of national and regional government support would ultimately limit the possibilities they afforded. The article argues that ideas about the child and street play in this period cannot be divorced from evolving postwar planning and engineering policies and practices.

Delivering on Children’s Rights Online: An Improved Digital World for All? Children are a priority in EU digital policy for 2024-2029. Beyond fake dichotomies between protection and privacy, a focus on children’s rights in the digital environment could drive institutions and tech companies to ensure better online experiences for minors - and everyone else. From fixing recommender systems and ed-tech, to reining in advertising, detrimental data practices and addictive design features, there is growing awareness that children must be protected against risks and harms of the digital environment, as well as empowered to learn, play and participate. Robust protection of children’s data under GDPR, ambitious implementation of the DSA, and reform of consumers law to redress digital asymmetries and tackle vulnerabilities with a Digital Fairness Act can show that regulating and innovating for a better internet is possible. Fixing children’s online experiences, the EU may show a way forward for all. Questions to be answered: - How can the recognised vulnerability and additional rights of children deliver an ambitious and radical Digital Fairness Act? - How can we get age-verification right, to protect everyone’s privacy and empower children? - What lessons can tech companies draw from safety-by-design, age-appropriate design and child rights by design approaches? - How can we translate human and children’s rights into practical design and development requirements for digital products and services?
