I am so grateful to @wbznewsradio.bsky.social with Dan Rea for interviewing me last week about the inexplicable plan by the MWRA to dump *more* sewage in the Charles River. It was especially valuable to get a full hour, plus answer questions from callers!

Emptying Sewage into The Charles? - NightSide With Dan Rea | iHeart
<p>A recent proposal by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) would allow sewage overflows into the Charles River by declassifying it as &ldquo;safe to swim,&rdquo; a designation that all...

The moves come after a $60 million lobbying blitz from the chemical industry.

This is why you always follow the money.

The EPA has approved two new pesticides with "forever chemicals" that will be used on food.

The agency has also announced plans for four additional approvals.

The approved pesticides will be used on vegetables such as romaine lettuce, broccoli and potatoes.

He spent almost a whole day with me. I divulged more than I usually do, things about my personal life I don’t talk about. I appreciated him taking a sincere interest. So just want to say thank you @gustavoarellano.bsky.social for this feature.

I often forget my partner has a more sensitive palate than I do.

“Did you like the spaghetti?”
“It was interesting. What did you add beside the usual?”
“What did you taste?”
“Something bright but also sugary. Not wine.”

4 cherry tomatoes and a splash of amaro got me an “interesting.”

As someone who absolutely loved Star Wars in 1977 and who has seen a few of the sequels and found them ranging from forgettable to awful, I’m amazed when I see threads today about these movies. I wish something had a psychic hold on me like that.

Looks like the winter training program I’m doing has trained an AI on its data to answer questions and honestly I think that’s for the best. The questions last year were mostly the same over and over and took a lot of time and energy for the coaches to keep answering.

I tried doing a longer Zwift ride with just water no nutrition and my god I just inhaled a turkey burger and a banana. I don’t think I’ll try that again.

Two years ago tonight we were setting up dumpster dived pink tents for migrants in the freezing cold and wind in the desert, they were held there for days without food water or shelter other than what we could share with them. That was the Biden admin, in case anyone thinks it was all good before.

My computer’s in the shop so I’m working on a typewriter today, so I can point out that em dashes and en dashes are typesetter marks, not writers’ tools. Double dash! It’s fine. Here’s the only em dash I know.

I bet fliers would be in a better mood if the Trump administration didn’t just rip away rules that make airlines compensate people for canceled and delayed flights.
Trump's Transportation Secretary on how to improve air travel:

"People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly... We want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season, help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

I'm realizing I am a "certain kind" of reader. I've started and put down three novels recently, and then I picked up Jim Harrison's Julip and I'm ripping through it.

Barry Hannah, Gordon Lish, Rick Bass, Denis Johnson, Jim Harrison. Jayne Anne Phillips, Lorrie Moore, Amy Hempel.

There are no ghosts. The universe is meaningless. But when I was 13, my grandmother died. At her funeral, my first, I wanted to cry but I couldn't. I was ashamed. That night, lying in bed, I thought about her, and a warm wind blew across my face. I turned to shut my window, but it was already shut.
do you believe in ghosts or are you like me, a person who finds themself saying all the time “I absolutely don’t believe in ghosts, but this place has ghosts.”
