Big root beer guy. International ETF trader. Not top 20 in the world at crosswords but maybe top 200. Appreciator of the fact that the 1999 New Orleans Saints had two quarterbacks named Billy Joe.
Back when people admitted to reading and enjoying Harry Potter the Harry Potter character I most related to was Terry Boot - he was probably a pretty smart guy, but hearing Voldemort’s name made him spill his drink all over himself. I was like yes, exactly
like I feel like some people on this site, if they were still allowed to admit to reading Harry Potter, would reveal that the character they most related to was Dolores Umbridge

Seahawks-Rams was like the entire MLB playoffs in that it ruled to watch but it must have been agony if you actually care which team won

I remember seeing the memes before the movie and thinking Matthew McConaughey was going to be important - completely inconsequential character, I have no idea what his name was or what he did, he could have been excised from the plot without changing a single thing. But he said “rookie numbers”
matthew mcconaughey’s brief cameo in the movie will be remembered more than the movie itself

The Romanian Palace of the Parliament contains multiple museums dedicated to “fuck the guy who wanted to build this, now and forever” - we can tear down everything Trump builds, or we can turn it into that. If he is the American Ceaucescu that would be a better fate than he deserves
Any Democrat who lacks the will to tear down the Arc de Trump-Umph on day 1 does not deserve the presidency
Trump: We’re building an arc like the Arc de Triomphe. It will be like the one in Paris but it blows it away.

The last half century has sucked for American politics in a lot of ways and the worst of these is easily the pan-ideological consensus that the gutter bigotry of the worst elements of society must be downplayed, coddled, Listened To And Learned From because it’s just an outgrowth of Something Else

Never before have I so profoundly understood the saying "get down off that cross, we need the wood"

A few things about the statement quoted here:

1) the people who agree with it *do not understand* why anybody disagrees

2) the people who agree with it tend to be very good at a small set of things

3) they’re right more often than wrong, but when they’re wrong you have to catch them right away
I think "financialize everything and create a tradable asset out of any difference in opinion" might be the worst thing I've ever read

the competition is strong but it's a real contender
The co-founder of Kalshi says: " The long-term vision is to financialize everything and create a tradable asset out of any difference in opinion."

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Christmas In Hollis are very easily the best of these two categories, with an honorable mention to the part of Little Drummer Boy where the ox and lamb keep time and the note that is “town” in Little Town of Bethlehem
What is your favorite "Christian" Christmas song and what is your favorite "Secular" Christmas song?

I will probably always adore "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for Christian.

And "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for secular.

as is noted by someone else way down in the thread, the US department of homeland security twitter is not based in Israel. Obviously. That was fake. The other stuff (e.g. tons of US-centric racism from Indian bot farms) tracks.
elon installs a new feature that publicly displays the country where your app was installed and operates from

people find out the most racist pro-US accounts are based in israel, india, bangladesh, etc

What actor are you so (rationally or not) repulsed by that their work, no matter how good, is unwatchable to you?

Here’s a fun thought experiment: If you could only listen to one artist for the rest of your life, you would rather that artist be Phoebe Bridgers than Weird Al Yankovic. But if you have to never listen to one of them again (but still get to listen to others) you would lose Phoebe and keep Weird Al

It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

I would like people participating in various discourses to distinguish between Helen Andrews (sociopathic, racist, wrote a good article about arrested development and the brothers Karamazov, sucks mondo ass) and Leah Libresco Sargeant (very kind, very clever, loves garlic)

If the supposedly more pragmatic wing hadn't put forward an insanely damaged candidate, Mamdani probably wouldn't have won. Maybe he'd have pulled it off anyway but probably not. If you don't like it, you should be chewing out Cuomo's backers. They produced this outcome more than anyone else.
