1794 Advertisement for “White Bourdeaux Wine” – straight from the ship, 26 Spruce Street at Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River. When Philadelphia was the Capital of the U.S.
Some explanation is that white wine is translucent and light in colour, therefore ‘white’. I can’t find an evidence based answer though. And I am certainly not the first person to ask this question.
