I love Christmas music but I just can't do the standards anymore, so every year I go looking for lesser-known or obscure Christmas songs to add to my playlist. This, from Los Lobos' 2019 Christmas album is easily this year's favorite and may be a top-10er.

Pluribus subverts so many sci-fi tropes that it sort of gets lost that there are some sci-fi elements of the show worth thinking long and hard about. Whether or not the virus is a weapon is a good question; at the least it is certainly interested in propagating itself whatever the consequences.

Doing a deep dive of the soundtracks of Christopher Nolan's films and being reminded why John Williams is the greatest soundtrack composer ever. This is not throwing shade at anyone like Hans Zimmer, who has written some truly outstanding movie soundtracks. But no one comes close Williams' range.

Not really the point of the piece, but people don't seem to realize that people don't get all bent out of shape about your innocuous heterodox opinion. You're not going to get canceled for dipping your fries in mayonnaise, it's when you say dumb and offensive shit.

Enjoyed our annual Nerf battle with my brother, my niece, and my youngest yesterday when they came to visit us. Turns out she put googly eyes on the end of some of the darts which one, made them very funny looking and two, made them more painful when they hit you. I'm really quite proud of her.

We've spent almost a week complaining about the unnatural heat for the holidays so of course, to punish us for our insolence, Mother Nature sends the strongest cold front she can muster.

One of the most incredible shots I've ever gotten, in Yellowstone. This coyote walked over a ridge in the blowing snow and posed for me, with a small grin on its face, the snowfalkes like stars in the background.

The desolation and beauty of life and nature is grounding, and so good for the soul.

Jasper Nathaniel is an excellent reporter who has lived for a while in the occupied West Bank and he's right on the money here: a lot of people who are naturally predisposed towards the Israeli narrative flip entirely once they actually witness what occupation and apartheid look like with their eyes

Because they're not gigantic marketing pieces for toys, costumes, spinoffs, and cons? They're just simple, relatively straight-forward and enjoyable blockbusters of the kind people made before fan service was even a thing?

My dad told me yesterday that he used to work with Jan Book, who played soccer with the Dallas Tornado in their inaugural season, and who was part of the seven-month world tour that kicked off that preceded that season.

ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Why does something exist instead of nothing?

#AskEthan

We all know that the fact that the Universe exists has made a lot of people angry since the dawn of people.

But how did our Universe come to have "something" instead of nothing?

Ask Ethan: Why does something exist instead of nothing?
Perhaps the most remarkable fact about the Universe at all is simply that it, and everything in it, exists. But what's the reason why?
