In late 2020 a Chinese man called Guan Heng travelled to Xinjiang with our BuzzFeed map of detention facilities to provide ground truth for our work - he provided the first corroborating evidence for many sites.

He escaped to the US - then ICE detained him.

Heng Guan is awaiting an immigration hearing on Monday that could lead to his removal from the U.S. and ultimately land him back in China, according to his lawyer and a New York-based activist group.

Please help, I’m being silenced via my new comedy special and book and weirdly fawning profile in the New Yorker Magazine. Cancel culture run amok really.
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

Louis C.K.’s Next Chapter
In a new standup special, and a début novel, the comedian navigates murky, post-#MeToo terrain: not quite exiled, not quite welcomed back.

“Some of those reporters face likely persecution or imprisonment if they are deported to their home nations after having worked for the United States government.”

A lesson for anyone naive to think that USA ever cares about loyalty, honour or decency. Allies around the world are slowly seeing it.

Fantastic that the student newspaper is doing this, but also remarkably sad that it's falling to the student newspaper to do this.
Stanford University’s student-run newspaper sued two senior Trump administration officials Wednesday, challenging Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s ability to revoke student visas and deem an individual deportable based on the content of their speech.

This is yet another salvo in the “liberal kids need to cater to their MAGA uncles at Thanksgiving” wars that fails to remotely touch on the fact that it can go the other way. Guys not getting laid is a that guy problem, full stop.
OK so feeling slightly apprehensive about this, which I suppose is kind of the point. This is an attempt at a progressive view on masculinity and on men getting laid. God help me. iandunt.substack.com/p/how-to-be-...

The right story narrative about male attractiveness is grounded in Social Darwinism and free market economics. Can progressives tell a better story?

Not one to celebrate folks getting the axe from news orgs, but good riddance to the pinnochio guy. The absolute bane of actual journalism is public fact check nitpicking. Fact checkers should be checking facts in detailed, context-based stories, not doing whatever this was.
