I had never really thought about the fact that The Lord of the Rings is the 500,000+ word version of “the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house” but here’s the explanation.
Since this whole debate is still happening, and since we are still not listening I will summarize what I understand the argument to be in the Lingua Franca of white nerds: Lord of the Rings analogies.
white cis men blocking people of color and other members of vulnerable communities because their risk factor is a lot different than ours is peak white nonsense.
It's also how I know they don't give a shit about us.

Seconding entirely what Dr S has said here, very wisely. It really is all broken 🚮
I too have been through this long tea-leaf reading stage of 'does this count, what am I doing wrong, I need a book, I need two books, three books' and I just wanted someone to TELL me, but the truth is it's nothing you're doing, it's all broken, there are no jobs. It's very hard to believe this!
One thing to come out of this for me was that apparently fixed term lectureships count for little in the permanent job search. That's a pretty gutting claim for me.
So, senior academics in English, how do they weigh up in our field? An advantage, disadvantage or ignored?

My posts were not even about Kirk directly, but about America's apathy towards political violence, and the coddling of white male shooters and hate peddlers.
I was fired because I mentioned race: white men and violence-- that was my "gross misconduct."
