Hey, just an aside - please don’t feel like you have to follow me because I followed you - you don’t, this isn’t a trade.

That’s it. I could probably discuss more about why I “follow” people1️⃣, but that’s just really subtext.
Well it’s not a leopard, but the same principle applies; “it may be friend-shaped but it is not friend-lee”

The reality is that Elon Musk has used his vast wealth and power to make the lives of countless children worse, leading to an enormous number of their deaths. The gutting of USAID, the deepfake production of Grok, and the at best concealment of Epstein’s crimes are just the surface.

So there was just a very loud and sustained "Fuck ICE" chant during a pro wrestling show on live primetime television, if you wanna get a sense of the vibe shift.

(One of the wrestlers, Brody King, is an outspoken prigressive and wore an "Abolish ICE" shirt at a Mexico show in June.)

SPL gave us one of the best weapons fights of the last 20 years. Seeing Donnie Yen and Wu Jing at the top of their game fully unleashed was and is a thing of beauty elevated by blistering choreography and impactful editing. A modern day masterpiece!

Actually starting to feel very allergic to the claim that Epstein's crimes are a function of his class. His money obviously increased the scale of his abuse and granted him additional impunity, but to say that wealth was the genesis of his depravity feels like willful blindness to gender.
I understand the reasons why it’s more jarring and consequential to see it happen among billionaires, but the kind of shrugging disinterest or impishly approving encouragement of sexual abuse among Epstein’s circle is the same dynamic that happens in less powerful milieus.

They’re screaming “fuck ice” at wrestling matches and Chuck Schumer managed to use this leverage to negotiate against himself until the demand is “ here’s a bunch more money, can you guys please promise to not wear masks unless you really need to?”

The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...

one of my strongest beliefs is that we're in our situation right now bc some of the most prominent talking heads (e.g. joe rogan, andrew schulz) are learning about politics in their 40s and 50s, instead of their teens and early 20s, and we have to go along for the ride as they learn basic things

That's really my first time being subject to targeted harassment directed by a big account misogynist on Bluesky, and I gotta say.

As much as it sucked, what a change from how that sort of thing usually goes on Twitter

I hope people understand that this dynamic isn't JUST about the joy of harassing a target.

It's about silencing critics, especially marginalized people.

There comes a point where the target has to block everyone, and is as a consequence excluded from the conversation.

In Peter's photo, you can see the snow covered circle at the top of the stairs at the right (where a bollard used to be) and another bollard knocked out at the bottom left.

It feels worth saying that the thing that unifies men as disparate as Noam Chomsky, Deepak Chopra and Trump is patriarchy. Patriarchy, hatred of women, and the need to dominate them, persists across race and class status. Left movements refuse a robust analysis of persisting gender violence.

Bezos also bought The Expanse then canceled it when he realized it's about space socialism
The thing I keep circling back to is that, when Bezos originally bought the Post, it legit seemed like the least-bad option.

The expectation was that billionaires would treat media outlets like they do sports franchises — something to boast about owning, as a form of expensive status.
NEWS: The cuts were so severe that at least one department head asked to leave The Post rather than be included in the planning.

Peter Finn, The Post's international editor, requested that he be laid off once he learned about the scope of the cuts to his section.

NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.
