A fun morning wading in the Bavelaw Burn with fellow @wolct.bsky.social volunteers. Managed to get a hole in my waders so ended up with a wet left foot but we did get out a good deal of litter including a flag pole found by yours truly.

Thanks to everyone who came out this morning around the Visitor Centre, despite the rain! We raked off the walkway and cut back privat to let more light in and dry up the path. We also collected several bags of rubbish and enjoyed a lovely tea break in the warmth of the centre.😎

In Edinburgh briefly on Friday (I crossed over to the other side on Halloween) so walked a couple of miles of the Water of Leith. Trout from Glenogle Place bridge; Dipper at Dean bridge and probably appearing, unnoticed, in hundreds of tourist photos; Heron and Kingfisher behind Modern One. #birds

Male & female kingfisher plus young otter from the Water of Leith on Sunday. The female kingfisher followed the otter for a while catching small fish disturbed by it. The otter was v bold, hunting close to the bank (& several onlookers). @wolct.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social #Edinburgh #wildlife

Weirdly warm walk along the Water of Leith from Balerno today. Peak beech! Still time to catch the last of the autumn colours.
Saw 2 herons, a hint of an otter and no kingfishers.

Great to have young people from Portobello, Firrhill, and WHEC out at the visitor centre today with the JET Academy, learning some vocational skills for employment. We raked off leaves, keeping the boardwalk and paths safe, and cut back some overhanging privat. Great job guys! ✈️

They seek the rubbish here, they seek the rubbish there, volunteers seek it everywhere.
Thus it was great to get a hand from employees of Trainline , who have been out over the past two weeks cleaning up their local stretch of the walkway as part of their working day.

A good turn out of volunteers for our monthly clean up of Leith.
The boat team removed lots of waste that had been washed down including 2 litter carts, whilst on dry land we continued to clear leaves to keep the walkway in good order.

On a bit of a roll with the colourful birds, after the bearded tits, close encounters with 2 maybe 3 kingfishers (and an otter) on the Water of Leith in Edinburgh today. My favourite shot so far, lots to go through (and delete!). @wolct.bsky.social @rspbscotland.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social #Birds

A changeable morning on the walkway between West Mill Rd and Upper Spylaw Farm. We gave the walkway a good sweep off, refreshed the drainage ditches, cut back some encroaching vegetation, & had tea in the rain before planting bulbs in the sunshine. Great work folks, thanks! ☔🌞

Some beautiful autumn colours on show today in Craiglockhart Dell.
This morning we ran a water safety training session for The Green Team staff to share our knowledge.
Of course we took them for a wade so they could experience the water first hand.

Out west today at a Walk Funding Network meeting with @walkingscotland.bsky.social wonderful to hear about other projects which align with our work on the Water of Leith, but as always the river stole the show.

A power of work done by the staff team from Salesforce this morning at Redbraes and St Marks.
They removed old fencing from the woods, planted bulbs by the wildflower meadow and then improved the walkway by sweeping thousands of leaves.

Plenty of sunshine and leaves to be enjoyed by staff from salesforce that will be out with us this morning at St Marks park.
They'll be helping to remove old wire fencing, planting bulbs and of course sweeping leaves to keep the walkway useable.
