Its not a Scottish Ceilidh until someone accidently lets go mid hurl and spins off into set of tables and knocks pints everywhere.
Planning for Burns Night? We chatted with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers about surviving the chaos. From the "Sporran Shimmy" to avoiding "accidental jousting" with your Sgian Dubh, here is how to dance without a trip to A&E.
"Don't Joust Mid-Reel": A Kiltmaker’s Guide to Surviving the Ceilidh - Edinburgh Reviews
An informative look at the practicalities of Highlandwear, offering vital tips to ensure your Burns Night remains fun rather than painful.

CNN truly turning into something that even @theonion.com would not try to parody
"why aren't people watching cable news?"

cable news:
CNN is covering the Kalshi prediction markets as though they are news

My thoughts are with you. I guess it can work, I have only ever seen problems and dillying and dallying comes from it.

Ok now this broadly sounds like the beginning of regime collapse
In Iran, unrest is escalating as security forces increasingly lay down arms. Today, insurgents took over Malekshahi after law enforcement switched sides. In Ilam, police refused orders to disperse demonstrations. Fierce clashes between protestors and security forces were also reported in Shiraz.

Someone should greenlight a tv adaptation of the Flashman novels, Hiddleston would be great for that...

I was thinking more about what books I will read in 2026. I am decided that I am going try read some classics that have never read before and read some non fiction stuff . I am also going to try re-read books from my past.

Currently reading Budige's memoir and it's a ripping read.

I remember the Fife bloody mindedness meant we went to school. The bus ride was a hoot,as we skited and skidded around the various roundabouts.
Good morning 1982

There’s one big story

The Great Blizzard

By the end of the day almost everywhere in the UK will have seen snow

Northern Ireland, Scotland, the North and the Midlands will all be badly hit

Worst by far though, Wales

It won’t stop snowing for 36 hours

Yikes!
In my dad's day the local curling club would have organised Bonspiel on that.

While most of the Highlands/North East is getting dumped with snow, here in Edinburgh/Leith guys are walking about in cargo shorts.

That is your local community weather update.

There was an interesting post on BlueSky this morning that resonated with me. The post by @boredoftheoldone -here - was an observation about how we do not give ourselves enough time and space to enjoy trying new things. Apart from being your own worst enemy, there is also the constant judgment from your closest peers and, worse still, people who don't know you, politely telling you that you failed.
