Went to the Edinburgh U3A meeting with @threadinburgh.scot today. Many thanks Andy, for such an interesting talk.
Disher's were an old brand of Edinburgh United Breweries who brewed on the Pleasance, a firm best known for having run the largest duty fraud in the UK at the time (and well into the 1970s) from 1926 to 1933, which brought the company crashing down in dramatic style when it was busted by the Excise.

Out with @wolct.bsky.social this morning litter picking on the section between West Mill Road and the bypass. After the coffee break we had a wee blitz of the bank beside Gillespie Road.

Dry land litter picking this morning with @wolct.bsky.social as the Water of Leith was still very icy and so the boat couldn't be used. Collected nearly 4 bags of litter so not a bad morning to be out.

Grey, breezy damp morning for a gorse cutting session with Holyrood Park Ranger Service at Dunsapie crags. Thankfully the rain didn't last long so it didn't feel too bad.

Booked our trip yesterday (I'm not normally this organised) A trip to the Isle of May is one of the highlights of our year.
Welcome to a new year! We are already preparing and planning for a new season on the Isle of May and the various boat booking websites are now open as the blog explains: isleofmaynnr.wordpress.com

Beautiful, cold winter morning for litter picking with @wolct.bsky.social. Not much to be found in the dells so I cleared the lane near Slateford station and along part of the canal. Three bags, trike, mop and curtain rail picked up.

A wee bit of snow didn't stop us singing to the apple trees in Victoria Park and at the Heart of Newhaven. The hot drinks and apple cake were much appreciated.

Grey skies above but an enjoyable, sociable walk today along the Water of Leith path from Balerno. Made it as far as the lovely Four Square Park cafe in Saughton Gardens for a welcome coffee!
We aim to have a walk on the last Sunday of each month in 2026 - why not join us?

Lovely walk today from Balerno to Saughton Park with @redropescot.bsky.social. It was strange to be walking along the path without collecting litter as I often do with @wolct.bsky.social.

This is my favourite picture from the exhibition, great to see that it's the Christmas Eve image.

After 4 years of volunteering with @wolct.bsky.social, I saw my first otters on the Water of Leith! It made collecting 3 bags of litter even more worthwhile.

Enjoyable session helping at @bethanychristiantrust.com Caring Christmas Trees collection point. It's great to know that the profits help vulnerable folk this winter.

Managed to miss the worst of the rain whilst litter picking with @wolct.bsky.social on the Saughton Park/Fords Road stretch. Two full bags collected including lots of disposable gloves and a pair of bra inserts!

Had a fun afternoon at the Curl Edinburgh rink yesterday trying curling for the first time. The slide delivery is a challenge, I suspect I didn't look too elegant!

How can Brendan McCullum pick up his salary in all good conscience? There's been poor preparation, no game planning and players can perform poorly without any consequences. Utter shambles #TheAshes
