I am here.

My twitter account seems not to exist anymore (twas @wjr) and I deleted all facebook apps from my phone (though I do still check it on my computer sometimes).

To be fair, I never really posted on twitter, and only post on FB when I'm travelling so I can share cool photos.

We'll see.

This is probably the result of a ghostwriter using a mislabeled interview transcript but it's still pretty embarrassing for Cynthia Erivo, who narrates the audiobook herself.
Here's something weird my neighbor Cassie pointed out: Chapter 42 of Cynthia Erivo's recently released book "Simply More" is almost verbatim words spoken by Ariana Grande in an interview a year ago. Grande is not cited or listed as a contributor or attributed in the book in any way. Weird!

A tiny TIL: if you get "Error 153: Video player configuration error" on YouTube videos embedded on your site a likely culprit is sending the "Referrer-Policy: same-origin" HTTP header

Switching to "strict-origin-when-cross-origin" fixed it for me: simonwillison.net/2025/Dec/1/y...

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

This is part of what makes the Internet regrettable, but we have also used social media for positive change, so we just need to keep trying (and do whatever it takes to eliminate this crap!)
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

I quit the former Twitter two years ago this week, and I am here to tell you that my online life got a lot better for having left it. In two years I've not been tempted to go back, and I haven't felt any penalty in either career or community for not being there. It's nice to be here and not there.

Look, I know we're all sick of hearing "if this had happened with any other president ..." but it's absolutely true and absolutely can't be forgotten.

For some reason, this nation gives this idiotic spoiled brat a free pass from things that would destroy the administration of any other person.
When asked if there was anything "incriminating" in Epstein's emails, Trump pointed a finger in a female reporter's face and snapped. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.'
