I now live on the atlantic coast of France, so decided to learn something about of the second world war here.

As a result, I've been down the most amazing rabbit hole of discovery...

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Here's a link to a page for #jamaica #melissa relief support. There are already scam sites being set up so, for now, this is one of the legit ones set up by the government of Jamaica. Haven't heard anything from the Canadian government yet.

I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Over on X, Viktor Orban and Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson are having a twitter fight. Worth reading Kristersson's thoughtful reply in full, though I doubt Orban will be swayed by it. It is more an effect of the politicisation of EU-internal politics, where PMs treat each other as political opponents.

Fight two fights.
Anti-science.
Scientists who don’t value their own science.

Like the kind that’s published in Nature, Lancet, JAMA, & NEJM that shows how you get brain damage from SARS-CoV-2.

It’s worse w/each infection.
And you’re still huffing shared air.

You’re still in denial.
‘Bout since.
Science and scientists are under attack like never before and we need all the tools in the toolbox to fight back. Here's my @nature.com book review of Science Under Siege. Thanks for speaking up for science, @michaelemann.bsky.social and @peterhotezmdphd.bsky.social. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
