BBC report at a headline level that Grok will now not make sexually exploitative images any more. An actual reporter comes on and explains that it will do no such thing, and will just make the images invisible in the UK. These are two very, very different things.

1/ Some wild numbers have been used in the media this week for “the cost of net zero”.

Reports have said that net zero will “cost” £4.5 trillion, £7.6 trillion – the list goes on.

None of these are the cost of net zero – a quick explainer 🧵 on why

If you are still on Twitter/X, the time has come.

No excuses about how it's the only way you can follow some people.

Are they really worth enabling child sexual exploitation?
I put this on LinkedIn because that's where I think folks need to hear it, but TLDR: if you're on X, GTFO.

Sexually abusive content is not inevitable, it is a _choice_. If you stay on the platform, you are endorsing that choice.

Elon Musk and xAI's Grok got suspended by Indonesia because the country not only has -- but will actually enforce -- a regulation that tries to protect people from having their images used in rampant AI generated CSAM / NCII, apparently... www.cnbc.com/2026/01/10/i...
Indonesia temporarily blocks access to Elon Musk's Grok over sexualized images
The move comes after governments and regulators from Europe to Asia have condemned and some have opened inquiries into sexualized content on the app.

The world's richest 0.1% took just three days to exhaust their annual carbon budget

The UK’s richest 1% produced more carbon pollution in eight days than the poorest 50% used in a year.

We can't afford the rich - they produce corruption, poverty, environmental degradation; destroy democracy.
World’s richest 1% have already used fair share of emissions for 2026, says Oxfam

Glad we made this decision today

I know colleagues, the government and other organisations think they will be ceding ground and an important public discussion space if they leave X

It has been twisted too far into an unsafe, malign and destructive tool to morally use, & thereby endorse, anymore

News out today shows big utes designed to cary cargo are better at killing pedestrians than smaller vehicles designed to cary people

did you know the popularity of these behemoths is based on a range of subsidies?

But the govt is inquiring into subsidies for EVs…

Australia has a big “big car” problem; we have too many SUVs and utes, and we keep getting lots more of them.

Nearly every panel I spoke on this year ended with the same question: "What gives you hope?"

My friends, that question expired years ago. (If you need receipts, my book Saving Us is literally a 300-page answer.)

The real question is: How are you PRACTICING hope?

Because Greta is right ..

Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

Ok President Trump, if you sue the BBC for $1bn for spreading lies, I’ll sue you for the same amount. I reckon Planet Earth would crowdfund that. Then I’ll buy Mar A Largo, turn it into a climate change research centre, free Melania, and put a 1000% tariff on orange face paint.
