Frankly it’s embarrassing how much George Orwell’s “1984” gets wrong about 1984. The publisher should update it to be more accurate, e.g. “Winston heard ‘Eat It’ by Weird Al Yankovic playing on the radio. ‘I’d hate to be Michael Jackson right now!’ he said to Big Brother”

Could a city with a similar population to Galway ever reduce road deaths to zero in a single year? It sounds unfeasible, but it can be done.

Good news — Speed limits are going down.

Legislation was passed by the Oireachtas last year to allow reductions in speed limits from 50 km/h to 30 in towns, and from 100 to 80 in rural areas. Default speeds were TOO HIGH.

Reducing them is a vital step forward for road safety.

A good reminder that cycle lanes and footpaths don't appear congested as they (mostly) allow people to move through quickly and efficiently.

Wanna bring up an issue about #ge24 nobody else is: the noble tradition of hoisting candidates on someone's shoulders like a pharaoh of old. FG were broadly poor in escalation and sustain. SF much cleaner and stronger. But winners are FF: it looked like Mary Butler was on a fairground ride.
