The long-running ideological war on libraries, education, and government workers is not separate from AI boosterism. It is the same ideological war on human knowledge and expertise. In some cases AI is being used to directly supercharge this effort:

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says 'I'd rather die' than use generative AI
Del Toro's new Frankenstein adaption reimagines Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel. Frankenstein was like a tech bro: "creating something without considering the consequences," he explains.

I agree with every word Zelda Williams says. And this at the end from OpenAI makes me want to go full Ned Ludd. Creators can’t have a blanket opt-out on copyright infringement of their work and have to fill out a form appealing to OpenAI’s mercy every time? Fuck off into the sun

Not that the give a shit.

But it is AGAINST THE FUCKING LAW.

Despite what all these reports are tiptoeing around, the laws are VERY CLEAR.

Been in a rut again, been a frustrating year and I'm trying to figure out what to do about it. I know I need to start sharing the things I'm working on more but I haven't enjoyed social media since 2012. At least I've got some Wasteland Weekend photos I'll post soon

I used to work at Sundance Film Festival. I grew up in Utah and it was a big reason why I fell in love with film in the first place.

Been a year of losing decent people I fear.

Rest easy Robert Redford
Natives in Hollywood would not be where they are today without this man. *I* would not be where I am today. He made the Sundance Film Festival & Sundance Native Lab I was in.

So much more than an advocate, he created space. He was one of the few who invested in our future.

To Robert Redford 🕊️ RIP
