This is Shovel-ready Shaw with your mid-afternoon sidewalk clearing report: if you have been out, get back out now. Sleet got some moisture in it or something and some freezing happened. Or maybe early pm temps got warmer in spots? Anyway, things are suddenly much tougher. May get worse.

After shoveling once you get just sleet and it is a weird consistency. I don't recall seeing this much sleet before. It's like shoveling sugar.

Small sleet on top of dry, fluffy snow. If you were hoping for a snowman or snowball fight, make other plans.

I've got my layers on. I've got my Bean boots on. I've got my skiing penguin boxers on. Shovel #1 here we go!

As with the murder of Renee Good, this video immediately established that DHS was lying about the shooting.

The video shows that this was murder.

And once again, DHS is obstructing local authorities from investigating a homicide in their community perpetrated by DHS agents.

The Department of Homeland Security is murdering American citizens.

Congress cannot allow that to continue.

Getting these people out of Minnesota and cutting off funding should be a minimum response.

This is an outrage and an assault on our rights and freedom and it must stop.

Prob links to actual video on here, but the analysis seems important to have out there as the fascist regime looks to spin this through bald-faced lies.
Federal law enforcement agents shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Jan. 24 according to local police officials. DHS told Fox News that the man was “armed with a gun”. A video of the shooting appears to show that a gun was taken from the man before the first shot was fired. x.com/BillMelugin_...

I avoid blanket statements, but we are absolutely going to have to have MASSIVE prosecutions through this administration, but especially ICE and its enablers. The most hardened prisons we have got for life.
Initial report is that two observers got into a shoving match with eight agents, one observer was wrestled to the ground, and then an ICE agent pulled out a sidearm and shot the man on the ground five times.

ICE just shot another one of my neighbors. They had the person on the ground, being beaten by several agents, and then fired multiple shots. In front of the donut shop where we like to get donuts for our kids.

There’s a very good reason the United States has been (relatively) stable for as long as it has: equal protection under the law. If that is truly gone, we are in for a disaster. There must be prosecutions for all of this, and it must start on the state level but not end there. This isn’t sustainable

Without getting into details, this piece hits very close to home. We don't want to go back to the horrors of yore, but we HAVE to be able to do more for mentally ill people who won't get treatment. @ebpforva.bsky.social @kirkmcpike.bsky.social how might we do better? wapo.st/4r6qOyp
She lived on the streets. In a powerful death notice, her family explained why.
Carol Sauer, 66, spent more than two decades homeless in Northern Virginia and was a well-recognized figure at a bus stop in Arlington, Va.

So this blew up a little bit. To be clear:

1) I am 100% in favor of the Braddock Rd project because I pilot a wheelchair and parts of it have 💩💩💩 accessibility (esp Comm to MtVA). What's good for bikes is generally good for chairs. NOT suggesting anything otherwise.
I saw quote of someone saying they 'couldn't use their house' without parking. Untrue for most, but for disabled, it might be. How might we allow for a case like this, while also providing safe, efficient travel for all means of travel? This is a fair question to ponder.
January 24, 2026 at 12:58 AM
I think there is a potentially large issue to consider and work around here. We bought our house before my daughter became disabled. We are on side street, so no issue with parking our accessible van. What if we live on this future Braddock?
80-member choir rehearses at Good Shepherd every Tuesday. Never any trouble finding parking. Simply not an issue. Only valid concern I have heard is that the disability spots for Good Shepherd are currently on Braddock. That is an issue! But solvable I think.

One anecdote r.e. the Braddock Rd. improvement plans: I walked own Russell Rd. the other night and, at about 8:25 on a Tuesday evening I counted *two* cars parked between there are Commonwealth.

So @governorwalz.mn.gov @elilad.bsky.social if the shed isn't ready for us yet, maybe we should do DRBC on a DASH bus! Seems very on-brand and we could circle the city picking up and dropping off participants. And/or, we could park it in strategic locations so others can "enjoy" out revelry!
