If the U.S. military is given direct orders to seize Greenland—pull down another nation’s flag, and then claim the ground in the name of the United States—every senior commander has a moral obligation to refuse to accept or support such a command.

I think it would be a good idea for D politicians to be declaring this publicly, pre-emptively. They should state it as an abstract, legal proposition: an order by the President to seize Greenland would be unlawful, here's why. Trump does not have the legal right to attack a NATO ally. Say it.

Top Youngkin appointees resign

Spanberger should be able to easily replace them given Dem trifecta

Whenever you hear a rumor like this, you should also be asking yourself "which Dems".

I'm sure Fetterman has all sorts of ideas for a grand compromise that won't fly with anyone else with a (D) next to their name, for example.
extremely cool info environment to tweet something and a half hour later once it’s riled everyone up to be like “no haha jk it’s the opposite actually”

I would personally prefer the Great Khan.
we are still years out from the Democratic primary, and I think it is genuinely deranged that there’s people out there who believe there’s no other choice and thus we must rally around the flag of, all people, Gavin Fucking Newsom to save the republic

This.

I know it’s easy to think the opposite.

But the crazy grab, stab, and shoot?

It’s panic driven.

If these folks felt in control, this crap wouldn’t be necessary.

Don’t buy the bravado.

Stand up for truth.

We are the majority.
If you won’t hear me, hear Jamelle Bouie. He’s right: the ICE operation in Minnesota reads as panic. After Renee Good was killed, the White House escalated force instead of accountability. That choice isn’t strength. It’s fear. And it’s why they’re losing the political fight.

Plus; many of these ICE watch groups are centered around schools, which simultaneously operate as polling places in many cases
A lot of communities have already organized ICE Watch networks, or they are organizing them presently. Might I suggest these *very same networks* can be used for election poll watching.
This is why we need communities to organize systems of election support for voters. We can’t let anyone feel alone and intimidated into not voting.

Why would someone with a Russian IP address even be aware that DOGE was firehosing data out of a US federal agency?

How would that entity with a Russian IP address know where or how to tap into that firehose of outgoing data, without being tipped off by DOGE?

DOGE was hustling that data OUT of federal agencies as rapidly as possible, using techniques associated with hackers and cybercriminals.

People don't understand: our data IS the treasure. That's why federal agency heads tried to intervene physically to protect it.

A whistleblower tells Congress and NPR that DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data and hid its tracks. "None of that ... information should ever leave the agency," said a former NLRB official.

What if the goal was to loot federal databases for their wealth of priceless private information on hundreds of millions of Americans--our tax records, Social Security #s, mortgage filings--& use that data to punish political enemies & train the surveillance technologies owned by the Broligarchs?

This is how it's done. If you live somewhere that hasn't yet been attacked, this is what you need to work on. Dig in. Most of America doesn't consume news so if your suburb looks like mine, there probably isn't much going on in your community.

Organize and dig in.
I cannot overstate how much everything we're doing relies on heavily populated, extremely active community networks and channels. If ICE sets foot in my neighborhood signal blows up. There are observers on virtually every block. Someone whistles or honks like crazy and suddenly EVERYONE knows.

You need to share this as widely as you can because federal authorities, the DOJ and the FBI and so on, need public trust to maintain their credibility and therefore their authority.

Donald Trump is scared out of his mind that Republicans are going to lose the House in the midterms, if not sooner given how fast things are unraveling, which is why he’s accelerating his authoritarian and fascist plans at a pace we’ve never seen before. This isn’t confidence, it’s panic.

If Michelle Obama had suggested this as a policy approach, we would have a much better country.

Not because it would have passed Congress or ultimately worked or anything, just because a lot of very deeply shitty people would have had strokes.

Norm, we see what your saying, but court orders don't do shit when our brains are already dripping onto our airbags. Citizens are not experiencing the rule of law personally or the rule of law constraining Trump. It's materially apparent.
I disagree with the suggestion in the NYT story today that rule of law is not working to stop Trump

Yes the "Trump judges" have been disproportionately bad, but the overall win rate of over 60% or >320 wins is still EXTRAORDINARY

And the wins in the most important areas have been even bigger👇

@surcomplicated.bsky.social how close do you suppose we are to that terrible thing that forces an end to the regime? I'm not sure I feel the crescendo building up to that level, but I do think things could spiral. What say you?
